    • Returns to reserve role
Short remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Short is on the bench for the third game in a row and has settled into a full-time reserve role after Austin Riley put an end to his to his two-week absence Monday. While Riley missed 13 consecutive games with a left intercostal strain, Short picked up 12 starts at third base during that stretch, with Luke Williams getting the other nod. • Heading to bench Wednesday
Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Baty was in the lineup for three of the last four games with the Mets facing four right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll give way to the righty-hitting Mark Vientos on Wednesday while southpaw James Paxton takes the hill for the Dodgers. Vientos should continue to regularly replace the lefty-hitting Baty when the Mets face lefties, but the distribution of starts at third base between the two against right-handed pitching still looks to be up in the air. Baty has helped his cause by getting on base five times in 12 plate appearances over his last three starts, but Vientos owns a 1.085 OPS since his May 15 call-up from Triple-A Syracuse to keep himself in the mix for starts against righties. • Back to bench role
Espinal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Espinal started at third base in all three games of the Reds' weekend series versus the Dodgers, but he's been a spectator for all three games of the series with St. Louis now that Jeimer Candelario is healthy again after missing time with a neck injury. The Reds will likely to continue to make room for Espinal in the lineup when the team faces left-handed pitchers, but his opportunities to play against right-handers will become more infrequent now that the team has all of its infielders available save for Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) and Matt McLain (shoulder), the latter of whom has been on the injured list all season. • Pops third homer
Montero went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run in Tuesday's 13-7 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Montero has made three straight starts since Jordan Beck (hand) landed on the injured list, with two of those starts coming against righties. He's been productive in that short span, driving in four and also scoring four runs. Montero will need to continue to hit to maintain playing time, but the absence of Beck creates the possibility of more regular plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:21 am

    • Three hits in win
Solano went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins.

Advice: Solano recorded two base hits and then capped off his night with a run-scoring double in the eighth to put the Friars up, 4-0. He's now driven in runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season and has reached base seven times in his last nine plate appearances. The 36-year-old remains a utility depth option for this team and is slashing .375/.474/.531 with three RBI, two runs and a 5:4 K:BB in 38 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:17 am

    • Chris Taylor playing third base against Mets
Chris Taylor is starting at third base and hitting seventh for the first game of a doubleheader against the Mets on Tuesday.

Advice: Taylor is starting at the hot corner for the first time in 2024. The 33-year-old veteran has been atrocious so far in 2024 with a .101 average and .338 OPS over the first third of the campaign. Enrique Hernandez takes a seat for the first game of the twin-billing. • Potential for playing time
Montero went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk in Monday's 8-6 win over the Guardians.

Advice: Montero had been limited to a short-side platoon role since the return of Kris Bryant from the injured list, but he's started both of Colorado's games since Jordan Beck (hand) landed on the shelf. Beck's absence allows the Rockies to play Charlie Blackmon in right field and shift Kris Bryant to designated hitter, opening first base for Montero. However, Jake Cave and Hunter Goodman also remain options for the Rockies in right field, so consistent plate appearances are far from assured for Montero. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:22 am

    • Slugs first homer
Solano went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 2-1 win over Miami.

Advice: Solano came into the contest having gone 2-for-13 over his previous seven contests, but he broke the slump with a second-inning solo homer for the game's first run. The long ball was his first as a member of the Padres after joining the organization on a minor-league deal in mid-April. Solano has never been much of a power hitter, but he's consistently demonstrated good contact skills and is slashing .321/.441/.464 in limited opportunities this season. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:17 pm

    • Vidal Bruján out of Monday’s lineup versus Padres
After going 0-for-3 in an increasingly rare start Sunday, Vidal Bruján is out of the lineup for Monday’s game.

Advice: Bruján was the Marlins’ primary second baseman before Tim Anderson got hurt, at which point he switched over to shortstop and Otto López took over at second. Unfortunately for Bruján, López got hot, and now Bruján has lost his spot with Anderson back, even though Anderson is running neck and neck with Andrew Benintendi for the title of baseball’s worst player. So, Bruján, one of the Marlins’ best players to date even if that’s not saying much, has been out of the lineup five times in the last six games. Rotoworld Monday, 1:20 pm
