    • Homers Wednesday
Ortiz went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, two walks and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Ortiz is now 5-for-10 with three extra-base hits and a .615 OBP over his last three games while securing the everyday third-base job in Milwaukee. Overall, the 25-year-old Ortiz is slashing .277/.384/.511 with four homers, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and a stolen base through 37 games this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:13 am

    • Pops homer in loss
Espinal went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Epsinal cracked his second home run of the season in the fifth inning and has hit safely in five straight (6-for-15). The infielder is playing more than originally projected, filling in at second base for Matt McLain (shoulder) or third for Noelvi Marte (suspension), but Espinal's .200 average and .536 OPS are not enticing. • Three-hit effort in win
Madrigal went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-1 win over Atlanta.

Advice: All three hits were singles as Madrigal earned his fourth multi-hit effort in 39 contests this season. The infielder is slashing .234/.300/.281 with no home runs, nine RBI, four runs scored and one stolen base over 69 plate appearances. Madrigal had been limited to a bench role for much of the season, but he's receiving more playing time while Dansby Swanson (knee) is on the injured list and Nico Hoerner (hamstring) is out of the lineup. • Playing time picking up
Mastrobuoni will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: With Dansby Swanson (knee) recently going on the injured list and with Nico Hoerner (hamstring) out of the lineup for the second day in a row, Mastrobuoni has been the main beneficiary from a playing-time perspective. He'll draw his fifth start in seven games Wednesday and could continue to see fairly steady playing time in the middle infield even if Hoerner avoids a trip to the IL. • Brewers demote Oliver Dunn to Triple-A
Brewers optioned INF Oliver Dunn to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Dunn got some time as the Brewers’ leadoff man last month, but he wound up hitting a modest .226/.278/.333 in 90 plate appearances during his first stint in the majors. There’s still some hope for him as a platoon option at second or third, but he needs to shed some strikeouts; he had a 39% K rate his first time around the league. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:42 am

    • Heading to minors
The Brewers optioned Dunn to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: Though he served as Milwaukee's designated hitter in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Pirates, Dunn's playing time had been relatively sparse since mid-April with Joey Ortiz overtaking him as the preferred option at third base. As a left-handed hitter, Dunn wasn't a fit for the Brewers as a strong-side platoon player, either, so he'll head to Nashville to get some everyday playing time. Outfielder Chris Roller was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:29 am

    • Mets designate Joey Wendle for assignment
Mets designated INF Joey Wendle for assignment.

Advice: It’s a little scary that the Mets have chosen to forgo carrying a legitimate backup middle infielder, but insurance there is all Wendle seemed to have to offer at this point. He was hitting .222/.243/.250 in 37 plate appearances for the Mets. Last year, he came in at .212/.248/.306 in 318 plate appearances for the Marlins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:24 am

    • Cast off 40-man roster
The Mets designated Wendle for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Unless another team opts to put in a waiver claim for Wendle, the Mets will owe him the money remaining on his one-year, $2 million deal. Signed in November to provide depth in the infield, Wendle rarely saw action for the Mets and struggled to produce in his limited opportunities, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances. • Expected to be optioned
Dunn appears set to be optioned to Triple-A Nashville prior to Wednesday's game versus the Pirates, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The Brewers haven't announced any transactions as Wednesday's 1:10 p.m. ET opening pitch approaches, but Dunn no longer had a locker in the clubhouse. Dunn has slashed just .192/.240/.255 since April 16 and has seen his playing time slip, so his expected demotion doesn't come as a surprise. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:52 am
