    • Mets designate Joey Wendle for assignment
Mets designated INF Joey Wendle for assignment.

Advice: It’s a little scary that the Mets have chosen to forgo carrying a legitimate backup middle infielder, but insurance there is all Wendle seemed to have to offer at this point. He was hitting .222/.243/.250 in 37 plate appearances for the Mets. Last year, he came in at .212/.248/.306 in 318 plate appearances for the Marlins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:24 am

    • Cast off 40-man roster
The Mets designated Wendle for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Unless another team opts to put in a waiver claim for Wendle, the Mets will owe him the money remaining on his one-year, $2 million deal. Signed in November to provide depth in the infield, Wendle rarely saw action for the Mets and struggled to produce in his limited opportunities, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances. • Recalled from Triple-A
The Giants recalled Luciano from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Advice: Luciano has spent the entire season with Sacramento so far, slashing .266/.399/.344 with 20 RBI across 158 plate appearances. He'll come up from the minors to give San Francisco additional infield depth, taking the roster spot of Patrick Bailey (concussion). Rotowire.com Tuesday, 6:45 pm
    • Giants recall Marco Luciano on Tuesday
Giants recalled SS Marco Luciano from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Luciano gets the call to provide the Giants with a much-needed extra bat heading into Tuesday’s showdown against the division-rival Dodgers. The 22-year-old former top prospect was batting just .266/.399/.344 with one homer and three steals in 158 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Sacramento. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:24 pm
    • Report: Mets moving on from veteran Joey Wendle
The New York Post’s Joel Sherman reports the Mets are designating Joey Wendle for assignment.

Advice: Sherman adds that Yohan Ramirez will also be jettisoned from New York’s 40-man roster ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Phillies. Wendle signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Mets during the offseason and has contributed just a .522 OPS with zero homers and one steal in 17 contests. It’ll be Mark Vientos coming up to take his spot on the active roster and split time with Brett Baty at third base moving forward. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:55 pm

    • Lengthy power outage
Amador is slashing .138/.312/.149 with zero home runs, 12 steals and more walks (19) than strikeouts (17) in 25 games for Double-A Hartford.

Advice: Coming into the year, Amador was seen as one of the best pure hitters in the minors, so it's a bit jarring to see his batting average sitting at .138 through the first five weeks of the season. Perhaps more concerning though, is Amador's complete lack of power, as his .171 BABIP and overly patient approach largely explain his low batting average. Amador's 20.6 percent hard-hit rate and 63.2 percent groundball rate are very troubling marks. He is playing half his games in Hartford, which is essentially a neutral hitting environment, after getting to play half his High-A games at the very hitter-friendly park in Spokane, which helped him slug .514 in 54 High-A games last year. • Plays hero Monday
Newman went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in Monday's 6-5 win over the Reds.

Advice: Newman ended the night with a walk-off, two-run single off Cincinnati closer Alexis Diaz, who had hit a batter and walked two before the shortstop played hero. It was the third consecutive game with multiple hits for Newman, who is 8-for-12 with four doubles, a triple, two RBI and four runs scored during that stretch. He's added 74 points to his batting average -- from .179 to .253 -- due to this outburst and is more in line with his career mark of .259. He had become the team's primary shortstop, because his glove was more reliable than rookie Blaze Alexander. Newman should continue to serve that role until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is ready, which is expected to be at some point in June. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:28 am

    • Kevin Newman hits walk-off single against Reds
Kevin Newman went 4-for-5 with a walkoff two-run single in the ninth inning to give the Diamondbacks a 6-5 win Monday over the Reds.

Advice: Newman poked a single to right to score a pair of runners and turned a potential 5-4 loss into a 6-5 win. The 30-year-old former first-rounder has hit just .253 even with those four hits, and what was once an intriguing fantasy prospect is now someone who can be ignored on waivers. Monday was a good one, however. Rotoworld Monday, 10:04 pm

    • Homers again
Lopez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Monday against the Tigers.

Advice: Lopez took advantage of his third-straight start in place of Tim Anderson by collecting his fourth hit and second homer during that short stretch of games. Lopez has played 17 games this season totaling 32 at-bats, hitting .313 with three homers, six RBI, eight runs and a steal. Lopez has displayed a nice hit tool throughout his seven-year rise through the minors, topping .300 in three separate seasons, but the recent power surge is not consistent with his expected profile.
