    • Dodgers designate Elieser Hernandez for assignment
Dodgers designated RHP Elieser Hernandez for assignment.

Advice: The Dodgers needed to clear a spot on the active roster for Evan Phillips’ return on Friday night and unfortunately Hernandez was the odd-man out this time around. The 29-year-old hurler has posted an 8.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 6/3 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings for the Dodgers this season. It’s likely that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra pitching depth for the Dodgers at Triple-A Oklahoma City. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:01 pm
    • DFA'd by Dodgers
The Dodgers designated Hernandez for assignment Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Hernandez will be pushed off the Dodgers' roster in order to make room for Evan Phillips (hamstring), who was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Hernandez struggled heavily upon joining the big-league club May 15, allowing nine earned runs in just 9.2 innings of work. Despite his problems in the majors, other teams may be willing to take a chance on him based on his 2.83 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in Triple-A. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:26 pm
    • Elects free agency
Bowman will enter free agency after clearing waivers Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: After being acquired by the Twins on May 2, Bowman struggled in his four outings with the Diamondbacks, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He was designated for assignment Sunday, and the 33-year-old will hit the open market and look to join a team in need of right-handed depth out of the bullpen. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:14 pm

    • Recalled from Triple-A
The Diamondbacks recalled Cecconi from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Advice: With Zac Gallen (hamstring) headed for the 15-day injured list, Cecconi will come up from the minors in order to fill the open spot in Arizona's rotation. The 24-year-old righty has been inconsistent in the majors this season, giving up two runs or less three times but also allowing six earned runs during his other three outings. He threw seven shutout innings while striking out nine batters during his most recent start in the minors, but he remains an extremely risky fantasy option. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:10 pm
    • Diamondbacks recall Slade Cecconi on Friday
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Slade Cecconi from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: He’ll replace the injured Zac Gallen (hamstring) on the team’s active roster. It’s unclear if the Diamondbacks plan to have Cecconi take Gallen’s spot in the rotation, or if he’s just there to provide depth and length in the bullpen for a few days while they sort out their rotation plans. Either way, he can be avoided for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:05 pm
    • Set to miss 6-to-8 more weeks
Fujinami, who was placed on the 15-day injured list May 13 with a right shoulder strain, is expected to be sidelined for six-to-eight more weeks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Fujinami was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse after struggling in spring training. Those struggles continued across his nine minor-league games, as he registered a 14.09 ERA and 3.33 WHIP across 7.2 innings before landing on the IL. The good news for Fujinami is that he isn't expected to need surgery, but the 30-year-old right-hander will be out of action until mid-to-late July. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:37 pm

    • Rewarded with another start
Manager Oli Marmol confirmed Friday that Pallante will be the Cardinals' starting pitcher Tuesday against Houston,John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pallante fired six scoreless frames Wednesday against the Reds, a start impressive enough to warrant another turn in the rotation. He'll face an Astros lineup that's been significantly more productive than Cincinnati's, but Pallante should warrant some streaming appeal after his strong starting debut. • Steven Matz (back) throws bullpen session Friday
Steven Matz (back) threw his second bullpen session on Friday without any issues.

Advice: It’s unclear how many times he’ll need to repeat the process before he’s cleared to face live hitters, but it’s nice to see him at least taking small steps in the right direction. The 33-year-old southpaw has been sidelined since mid-May after receiving an injection in his back. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:42 pm

    • Throwing off mound
O'Brien (forearm) is slated to throw another bullpen session Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the second time he's thrown from the bump since he went down with a right flexor strain back in late March. O'Brien should be ready for a rehab assignment soon if he continues to progress. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:38 pm
