    • Elects free agency
Wendle elected free agency Thursday after decling an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Wendle was with Atlanta for just three days and didn't play in a game before being designated for assignment. He had enough service time to become a free agent rather than reporting to Gwinnett. Wendle will now be on the lookout for a new organization. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:51 am

    • Pilfers third bag
Lopez went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Padres.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder has seized the starting job at second base in the wake of the Luis Arraez trade. Through 30 games in the majors this season, Lopez is slashing a solid .273/.313/.429 with three homers, three steals, 11 runs and 15 RBI, and Statcast has graded him in the 89th percentile for outs above average on the defensive side of the ball. Given his career .288/.354/.401 line over nearly 1,000 plate appearances at Triple-A, this level of production seems very sustainable for Lopez, and he could even get more aggressive on the basepaths -- he's stolen 42 bags in 53 attempts at Triple-A. • Sent down to minors
The Mets optioned Vazquez to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Vazquez's first stint in the majors lasted a little more than a week, but he received just one plate appearance and struck out. Pete Crow-Armstrong was called up from Iowa to take Vazquez's place on the active roster. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:41 am

    • Luis Vásquez optioned to Triple-A
Cubs optioned INF Luis Vásquez to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Vásquez received just one at-bat while up with the Cubs, striking out. He will return to Triple-A Iowa, where he’s slashing .262/.360/.397 with three home runs and 22 runs scored in 39 games. He’s a strong defender and will likely remain a better real-life player than a fantasy player. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:33 am

    • David Fletcher makes first appearance as a pitcher
David Fletcher pitched five innings for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits.

Advice: Yes, that David Fletcher. The former middle infielder is reinventing himself as a knuckleball pitcher in the Braves minor league system. All while making $6 million dollars this year. Fletcher’s first start was particularly impressive, especially against a loaded Baltimore Orioles Triple-A lineup. Fletcher struck out six batters, including Jackson Holliday, and walked just one. There is no way to know if the Braves will actually give Fletcher a chance to pitch at the big league level, but this is a fun experiment. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:52 am

    • Begins rehab in ACL
Lawlar (thumb) started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 with a walk for the Diamondbacks' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday.

Advice: Lawlar began a rehab assignment Wednesday, playing five innings in the field. He's been working his way back from a ruptured UCL tendon in his right thumb, and his rehab recently involved at-bats at the team's training facility at Salt River Fields. The plan, as outlined by Arizona farm director Shaun Larkin to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports, is for Lawlar to get in 2-to-3 weeks of game action before joining Triple-A Reno. • Outrighted to Gwinnett
Wendle cleared waivers Wednesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Wendle signed a big-league contract with Atlanta on Friday, but he was DFA'd three days later without playing in a game and will now join the team's Triple-A affiliate. The 34-year-old infielder has played in 18 games this season for the Mets, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:10 pm

    • Leaves with hamstring tightness
Luciano was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Phillies in the bottom of third inning with right hamstring tightness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. He reached base on a throwing error during his only plate appearance before exiting the contest.

Advice: Brett Wisely came off the bench to pinch hit for Luciano in the latter's second turn through the batting order. It's unclear whether Luciano first sustained the injury while he was playing shortstop in the top of the third or at some point earlier in the contest, but the Giants should provide more details on his condition after the game. Luciano has been working in the short side of a platoon with the lefty-hitting Wisely at shortstop lately while Nick Ahmed (wrist) is on the injured list. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:47 pm

    • Returns to reserve role
Short remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Short is on the bench for the third game in a row and has settled into a full-time reserve role after Austin Riley put an end to his to his two-week absence Monday. While Riley missed 13 consecutive games with a left intercostal strain, Short picked up 12 starts at third base during that stretch, with Luke Williams getting the other nod.
