    • Servais: Bryan Woo (forearm) to make next start
Mariners manager Scott Servais said late Friday that he expects Bryan Woo (forearm) to make his next start.

Advice: All indications are that Woo will make his next start on Wednesday against the Royals after making a precautionary exit from Friday’s return outing against the Athletics after experiencing forearm tightness during an extended break between the fourth and fifth innings. His fastball velocity dipped significantly in the fifth inning following the layoff, which led to a visit from Seattle’s training staff and his removal from the contest. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at this juncture, but it’s certainly a situation fantasy managers should monitor closely. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the coming days when he throws his usual between-starts bullpen session. Stay tuned. Rotoworld Today, 7:03 am

    • Picks up third hold
Duran walked one batter in a scoreless eighth inning Friday to record his third hold of the season in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The right-hander once again got used as a fireman rather than a closer, facing the top of the Toronto order in the eighth rather than being held back for the ninth. Griffin Jax wound up giving up a run in ninth but coming away with the save. Duran has three saves and three holds in six appearances since coming off the IL on April 30, and he's been lights out in general, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB through six innings. His usage could hurt his fantasy value in standard 5x5 roto or points formats that count saves but not holds, but Twins manager Rocco Baldelli isn't likely to change up how he deploys Duran as long as it keeps working. • Resumes throwing
Rodriguez (shoulder) began a throwing program out to 45 feet Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: A recent MRI on the shoulder showed positive results, and Rodriguez resumed throwing again. The left-hander was on a throwing program in early April but had it paused when he felt discomfort during a bullpen session April 9. Shortly thereafter he was moved to the 60-day injured list. • Battling forearm tightness
Woo said after Friday's 8-1 win over the Athletics that he has been dealing with tightness in his forearm, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Woo acknowledged that he experienced forearm tightness during his recent minor-league rehab outings, but the issue didn't prevent the Mariners from activating him from the 15-day injured list Friday ahead of his 2024 MLB debut. The right-hander struck out three and allowed just one hit and one walk over 4.1 innings Friday, but he ended up being pulled as a precaution after the forearm tightness cropped up again. Mariners manager Scott Servais said he expects Woo to be fine, and for now, the expectation is that the 24-year-old will make his next start, which is expected to come Wednesday against Kansas City. • Scores thrice in win
Contreras went 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored in Friday's win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Contreras was the offensive catalyst for the Brewers on Friday night as he crossed the plate a team-high three times. He also collected his third multi-walk game of the season, which may become a more common occurrence given his breakout season. The 26-year-old catcher is slashing .340/.420/.520 with five homers, 30 RBI and 35 runs scored over 174 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:58 pm
    • Mariners calling Bryan Woo’s exit precautionary
The Mariners announced the Bryan Woo’s exit from Friday’s start against the Athletics was precautionary.

Advice: That’s as far as the information went in the update. No word on what exactly occurred or if Woo might need to miss any additional time. It’s good to see that they’re taking every possible precaution with the 24-year-old hurler though. Expect the Mariners to provide another update on Woo’s status on Saturday. • Exits with trainer
Woo was removed from his start Friday against Oakland due to an apparent injury, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Woo appeared to be reluctant to come out of the game, but the Mariners' training staff saw something they didn't like and decided to pull the right-hander. In his first start of the season after working his way back from elbow inflammation, Woo pitched 4.1 scoreless innings and struck out three batters while walking one. It remains unknown if his latest injury is related to his elbow, but clarification should come relatively soon. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:06 pm

    • Bryan Woo exits with injury in return from IL
Bryan Woo left Friday’s game in the fifth inning with an apparent injury.

Advice: Such a bummer. Woo was making his season debut after battling elbow inflammation, and he had allowed just one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings before departing. It wasn’t obvious what the problem was, but it most likely was the arm acting up. Although it seemed like he wanted to keep going, the Mariners wouldn’t let him throw warmups to make his case. • Jhoan Duran gets hold against Blue Jays
Jhoan Duran pitched a hitless eighth against the Blue Jays for his third hold Friday.

Advice: Everything seemed great when Duran notched saves in his first two appearances back from the IL, but he’s been asked to pitch the eighth in three of four outings since. It’s strictly a leverage thing, but it’s annoying for us fantasy leaguers. Duran has been practically perfect since being activated, allowing a total of two hits in six scoreless innings.
