      Advice: Even in pitcher-friendly Petco Park, Pfaadt was tagged for a season-high three home runs. He gave up back-to-back solo shots to Fernando Tatis and Jurickson Profar in the first inning and also yielded a two-run blast to Ha-Seong Kim in the sixth. This was the third start in a row where Pfaadt has given up four or more runs. He's now at a 4.60 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 76:15 K:BB through 78.1 innings across 13 starts.       Bassitt allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over eight innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Friday.

      Advice: Bassitt tamed one of his former teams, but reliever Chad Green gave up a walk-off hit in the ninth inning. In his longest outing of the year, Bassitt threw 71 of 102 pitches for strikes. He's limited opponents to one run or fewer in five of his 13 starts this season, pitching to a 3.80 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 70:28 K:BB through 73.1 innings.       Max Scherzer will make a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

      Advice: It will be interesting to see how quickly the Rangers let Scherzer return from the minors. The 39-year-old has made a total of six minor league rehab starts during his 16-year career and never more than two during one IL stay. One would think a typical pitcher would get three or four in his situation (he missed the entire spring after back surgery and then made rehab start in April before injuring his thumb).       Scherzer (back/arm) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

      Advice: Scherzer had to be pulled off his initial rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm, but he's been trending in the right direction in recent weeks after receiving a cortisone injection. The 39-year-old was initially placed on the injured list due to his recovery from offseason back surgery. Scherzer threw 40 pitches in a live batting practice session earlier this week, so he should be ready for at least that many pitches Sunday.       Advice: Cole made his first rehab appearance Tuesday with Somerset, firing 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. He threw 45 pitches and touched 97 miles per hour, which is in line with his normal velocity.     • Registers another quality start
      Berrios allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over six innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Wednesday.

      Advice: Berrios didn't do much in the strikeout department with just two punchouts, but he was nonetheless very effective in recording his fifth straight quality start. The right-hander has just one win during that span but has put up a very solid 2.73 ERA. Aside from an eight-run, 3.2 inning blowup against Philadelphia on May 7, Berrios has been a model of consistency this season, allowing three or fewer runs in each of his other 12 starts.       Kopech (1-6) allowed a solo home run to the only batter he faced, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Cubs.

      Advice: Kopech was taken deep by Mike Tauchman as the Cubs won in walk-off fashion. It's been tough sledding for Kopech lately -- he's allowed five runs (four earned) over his last 2.2 innings, taking the loss in three of his last four appearances. The right-hander is now at a 4.21 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB through 25.2 innings while adding five saves, a hold and two blown saves. If he continues to struggle, Kopech could eventually lose his high-leverage role, though the White Sox's poor play overall has made it difficult for any of the team's relievers to put up saves.       Advice: Berríos delivered a sixth straight quality start, though he has only one win during the span. Tonight’s outing did nothing at all for his FIP, which has lagged way behind his ERA all year, but he continued to defy his peripherals in finishing the game with two strikeouts, three walks and a homer allowed (a solo shot to Anthony Santander).
