    • D-backs optimistic Zac Gallen makes next start
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo expressed optimism late Friday that Zac Gallen (hamstring) will make his next start.

Advice: Gallen was removed from Friday’s start against the Mariners in the sixth inning for precautionary reasons after experiencing right hamstring tightness. The 28-year-old righty has dealt with similar hamstring issues in the past, which is why Arizona didn’t want to take any chances. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in a few days when he throws his usual between-starts bullpen session, but for the moment, fantasy managers should plan on him taking the ball on Wednesday against the Dodgers at Chase Field. • Another strong outing
Sale (3-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over seven innings in a 6-2 victory over the Guardians. He struck out six.

Advice: The veteran lefty has been healthy and dominant to kick off 2024, and he completely shut down the Cleveland offense after serving up a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan. Sale has worked seven-plus innings in three straight starts for the first time since June 2018, and he's allowed three runs or less in four of his five outings so far for Atlanta. Sale will take a 3.69 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Seattle. Rotowire.com Today, 7:39 am

    • Fires six scoreless innings
Harrison didn't factor in the decision Friday against the Pirates after he struck out seven and allowed five hits and no walks across six scoreless innings.

Advice: Harrison generated 13 swinging strikes on 93 pitches as he gave up fewer than three earned runs in a start for the first time since his season debut. The right-hander missed out on his third win, however, as the Giants didn't score until Patrick Bailey's walk-off, three-run homer in the ninth. Harrison has a 4.09 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB over 33 innings through five starts this season. Rotowire.com Today, 1:47 am
    • Kyle Harrison holds Pirates off board over six
Kyle Harrison blanked the Pirates over six innings Friday with seven strikeouts, but didn’t qualify for a decision.

Advice: Harrison gets a hard-luck no-decision because the Giants were unable to score a run while he was in the contest. The southpaw didn’t walk anyone while scattering five hits in one of his best starts an MLB hurler. Harrison will have some ups-and-downs as a 22-year-old in his first full season of action, but there’s a chance for the ups to outweigh those downs. He’ll look to build on this against the Red Sox on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:51 pm
    • Dealing with hamstring spasms
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Gallen was removed from his start against the Mariners due to spasms in his right hamstring, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Diamondbacks will continue to monitor Gallen's condition, but the expectation is that he will be fine and may not even have to miss his next start, which is slated for Wednesday. The right-hander surrendered three earned runs across five-plus innings Friday before exiting in the sixth frame, giving him a 3.38 ERA through his first six starts. • Zac Gallen leaves start with hamstring tightness
Zac Gallen was pulled from Friday evening’s start against the Mariners mid at-bat in the sixth inning due to tightness in his right hamstring.

Advice: With as bad as it looked initially on the field, it’s actually encouraging that it’s not an elbow, shoulder or oblique issue that the 28-year-old right-hander is dealing with. The severity of the injury still isn’t known, but there’s a possibility that he may not even require a trip to the injured list. A lot will probably depend on how he wakes up feeling on Saturday, but for now fantasy managers and Diamondbacks’ fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:50 pm

    • Chris Sale shuts down Guardians in notching win
Chris Sale held the Guardians to one run and two hits in seven innings Friday in the Braves’ 6-2 victory.

Advice: Sale gave up a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan in the first and pretty much nothing else. The other hit was a single, and he walked just one. He’s 3-1 with a 3.69 ERA in five starts, all of which have come on at least five days’ rest. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:03 pm

    • Exits with trainer
Gallen was removed from Friday's game against the Mariners due to right hamstring tightness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: It's not immediately apparent how severe Gallen's injury is, but the Diamondbacks should offer more information following Friday's contest. The 28-year-old right-hander was able to get through five frames Friday while surrendering three earned runs on three hits and a walk, striking out three batters. • Zac Gallen exits start in sixth inning with injury
Zac Gallen was removed from Friday night’s start against the Mariners in the sixth inning due to an apparent injury.

Advice: It’s unclear exactly what occurred, but Gallen clearly didn’t feel right after delivering a pitch in the sixth inning, prompting a visit from the training staff and his eventual removal from the game. He had allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over his five-plus innings of work before departing. Expect the Diamondbacks to provide an update on their star right-hander’s status as soon as possible. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:00 pm
