    • Allows one hit in seven frames
Cease (5-2) picked up the win Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing one hit and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 12.

Advice: Cease fell one K shy of his career high in strikeouts and only allowed four total baserunners -- an infield single, two walks and a hit-by-pitch -- en route to his fifth win of his last six starts. He's been making a case for the AL Cy Young in his first season with the Padres, earning a 2.19 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP with 60 strikeouts over 49.1 innings pitched. Cease will look to add to his already impressive 2024 resume in a projected home start Tuesday against the Rockies. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:57 pm

    • Mountcastle slugs two-run homer, Orioles win in 12
Ryan Mountcastle slugged a two-run homer in the 11th inning on Wednesday night, helping to propel the Orioles to a wild 7-6 victory over the Nationals in 12 innings.

Advice: With one out left to get in the ninth inning, the Orioles had a comfortable 3-1 lead, then insanity ensued. Neither team scored in the 10th inning, then Mountcastle clobbered a 386-foot (98.8 mph EV) two-run shot off of Hunter Harvey in the 11th that gave the O’s a two-run lead. The Nationals would answer in their half of the 11th. The O’s then pushed two runs across in the 12th and allowed just one to escape with a victory. Mountcastle finished the night 1-for-5 and is now hitting .277/.324/.485 with six long balls and 18 RBI on the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:42 pm

    • Scores thrice
Witt went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored during Wednesday's 6-4 win over Milwaukee.

Advice: Witt collected his fifth long ball of the campaign Wednesday, tagging Joel Payamps for a long ball to lead off the eighth inning. Witt also notched a double in the first inning and was brought in on a Michael Massey sacrifice fly. Witt has logged multiple hits in five of his last eight games with 12 runs scored and a .423 batting average during that stretch. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:35 pm
    • Nathaniel Lowe drives in three in win over A’s
Nathaniel Lowe went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a pair of walks in the Rangers’ 12-11 win in the second game of a doubleheader against the Athletics on Wednesday.

Advice: Lowe drew a walk in the third inning and scored on a base hit by Jonah Heim. He brought two more runs in to score for Texas with a base hit in the fourth. Lowe reached again with a walk in the eighth and scored on a single by Josh Smith before adding a third RBI with a single in the ninth. The 28-year-old first baseman is slashing .328/.438/.448 with one homer, 12 runs scored, and 10 RBI across 80 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:19 pm

    • Pete Fairbanks will make another rehab appearance
Rays’ manager Kevin Cash told reporters on Wednesday that Pete Fairbanks will make another minor league rehab appearance at Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander allowed two hits and struck out a batter over a scoreless inning of work in his first appearance. It’s possible, if all goes well on Thursday, that he could be cleared to return to the Rays’ bullpen for their weekend series against the Yankees. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:36 pm

    • Giants finally place Jorge Soler (shoulder) on IL
Giants placed OF Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 5, with a right shoulder strain.

Advice: The Giants had been taking things day-to-day with their 32-year-old slugger — who has been shelved since last weekend due to soreness in his right shoulder — but on Wednesday they felt it was time to throw in the towel and sit him down rather than playing short-handed any longer. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers in weekly leagues, who may have chanced starting him for that juicy series at Coors Field. Heliot Ramos was recalled in a corresponding move. • Lands on injured list
The Giants placed Soler on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder strain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Soler's shoulder has caused him to miss the last three games, and he'll now officially be sidelined for another several days. The move is retroactive to Sunday, so it's possible the 32-year-old slugger is able to return in a week, but the Giants will wait and see how his shoulder heals. Heliot Ramos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:49 pm

    • Luis Arraez scores two runs in win over Cubs
Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored on Wednesday, leading the Padres to a 3-0 victory over the Cubs.

Advice: Arraez wound up reaching base safely in two of his four plate appearances, crossing the plate in the first and fifth innings, respectively, on run-scoring hits from teammates Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth. The 27-year-old batting title contender has a pair of multi-hit performances in five contests since arriving last week in San Diego. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:17 pm

    • Dylan Cease hurls 12-strikeout gem versus Cubs
Dylan Cease recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Cubs.

Advice: Cease was simply magnificent during Wednesday afternoon’s matinee at Wrigley Field, inducing a surreal 24 swinging strikes, including 12 on his slider alone, and finished with an elite 39 percent CSW. He limited Chicago’s formidable offense to just three baserunners, one hit and a pair of walks, over seven nearly-flawless frames. His 12 strikeouts were just one shy of his previous career-high mark set back on June 26, 2022. The 28-year-old fantasy ace has been outstanding in his San Diego debut, allowing two earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts. He’ll bring a stellar 2.19 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 60/16 K/BB ratio across 49 1/3 innings (eight starts) into a tasty home matchup on Tuesday against the Rockies at Petco Park. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:16 pm
