    • Draws start at second base in minors
Caminero made his first start of the season at second base with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run.

Advice: The start at second base came on the same day Brandon Lowe visited a specialist due to continued concerns with his right oblique. Lowe ultimately received good news, and the expectation is that he will be able to resume his rehab assignment with Durham soon. However, it's notable that the Rays seem to be prepping Caminero as a contingency plan at second base, a position he hadn't started a game at since 2022. Caminero is slashing a robust .316/.385/.582 with seven long balls on the season. Prior to Tuesday, he had been exclusively playing third base for Durham. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:07 pm
    • Elly De La Cruz sits for first time this season
Elly De La Cruz is absent from the Reds lineup Wednesday for the first time this season.

Advice: No word of any injury, and we’re going to assume this was a planned day off. Spencer Steer got one yesterday, and he also had been in the lineup every game this season. The Reds have Santiago Espinal at shortstop today. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:20 am

    • Receives first day off
De La Cruz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Arizona.

Advice: For the first time all season, De La Cruz will exit the starting nine for what looks to be a routine maintenance day before the Reds continue their road trip Thursday in Los Angeles. Santiago Espinal will step in at shortstop in place of De La Cruz, who has slowed down a bit at the plate of late with two hits and six strikeouts in 14 at-bats over his last three games. • Records steal in win
Freeman went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, two hit-by-pitches, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rangers.

Advice: That's a hard way to get on base four times, but it worked well to set the table for the Guardians. Freeman is still not hitting all that well -- he's batting .167 over 12 games in May, dropping his season average to .193 through 37 contests. He's made up for it with a passable .307 on-base percentage and 9.2 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old has added five steals, four home runs, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored and six doubles through 141 plate appearances. Manager Stephen Vogt is still trying to figure out who will fit best at leadoff while Steven Kwan (hamstring) is out, and Freeman is in the mix, having hit atop the order in each of the last three games. • Junior Caminero playing 2B on Tuesday at Triple-A
Rays top prospect Junior Caminero is playing second base on Tuesday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: It’s a significant development for fantasy purposes as it could expedite Caminero’s return to the majors and open up additional avenues to get his bat in the lineup everyday. The 20-year-old, who entered Tuesday night batting .304 with six homers and one steal in 103 plate appearances over 23 contests this season for Triple-A Durham, hasn’t made an appearance at the keystone since back in 2022. It might also shed some light on Brandon Lowe’s status after he was lifted from a rehab contest earlier this week for precautionary reasons due to oblique discomfort. The Rays are currently rolling with Richie Palacios at second base in the majors right now. It feels like only a matter of time before Caminero is back in Tampa Bay. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:01 pm
    • Cleared for running
Lewis (quadricep) did some light running on the field Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Twins head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta described the upcoming week as a big one for Lewis when it comes to his recovery from the right quad strain that has kept him out since he suffered the injury Opening Day. Lewis will gradually ramp up the intensity of his running this week while incorporating more change-of-direction work into his training regimen. Depending on how Lewis responds to the running work, he could be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment next weekend. In addition to running, Lewis has been fielding grounders and hitting. • Royce Lewis (quad) ramping up activity
Royce Lewis (quad) progressed to on-field running on Tuesday at Target Field.

Advice: Lewis has plateaued a bit in his rehabilitation process, so it’s an encouraging sign that he’s expected to ramp-up his baserunning this week. The 24-year-old third baseman’s return timetable should come into cleared focus at some point later this week. He’s been out since Opening Day recovering from a severe right quad strain. • Losing work to Soderstrom
Davis remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Davis has now started just once in the Athletics' last five games, as he's seemingly moved into the short side of a platoon with the lefty-hitting Tyler Soderstrom, who has recently taken over as the team's primary first baseman. The 31-year-old has supplied a career-worst .586 OPS over 83 plate appearances this season, and the non-contending Athletics don't have much incentive to give him regular playing time while he's struggling to produce.
