      Advice: Hoerner took rookie Paul Skenes deep in the fourth inning for just his second long ball of the season. He drove in another run an inning later when he walked with the bases loaded. The low power output isn't too surprising, as Hoerner had only nine home runs last year and just 10 in 2022.     • Nico Hoerner clubs solo homer in loss to Pirates
      Nico Hoerner clubbed his second home run of the season on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Cubs past the Pirates in a wild one at PNC Park.

      Advice: Hoerner tagged Pirates’ phenom Paul Skenes for his 380-foot (99.5 mph EV) wall-scraping solo shot to get the Cubs on the board in the fourth inning. The 26-year-old infielder also drew the first of the Cubs’ six bases-loaded walks in the fifth inning. That’s right, six bases-loaded walks in the fifth inning.       Advice: Freeman hasn't been able to turn his hitting around in May -- he's gone 4-for-26 (.154) through nine games this month and is batting just .193 on the year. His homer Friday was his first since April 19, and only two of his hits in May have gone for extra bases. The 24-year-old has four homers, 13 RBI, 18 runs scored and four steals through 126 plate appearances. It's fair to question whether Freeman has earned his near-everyday role, but the Guardians are unlikely to shake things up too dramatically while Steven Kwan (hamstring) is out.       De La Cruz went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, two steals, a run scored and was caught stealing in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Once again, De La Cruz filled up the box score. His fourth-inning single snapped an 0-for-17 slide, and he later delivered a run as part of the Reds' three-run seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4. His aggressiveness on the bases was also on display as he swiped his 22nd and 23rd bags; however, that aggression may have cost Cincinnati. After leading off the sixth with a walk and a steal, De La Cruz was caught trying to take third base and was not in scoring position when Jake Fraley singled later in the frame. That aggressiveness is something manger David Bell tolerates from De La Cruz, as he told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.
