    • On cusp of rehab assignment
Langford (hamstring) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: The 22-year-old has been sidelined nearly three weeks by a strained hamstring but is in the latter stages of his rehab program. Assuming Langford is able to get in a couple games this weekend, he could rejoin the Rangers for the upcoming two-game series versus the Diamondbacks, which begins Tuesday. • Plays nine innings Thursday
Thomas (knee) went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts for Double-A Harrisburg on Thursday while playing all nine innings in right field.

Advice: It's the first time in three rehab games that Thomas has played a full nine innings. The 28-year-old is 2-for-9 at the plate in those three contests with a double and a stolen base, and per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, the Nationals are considering whether to activate him Friday or leave him on his rehab assignment for another couple days to get his timing back at the plate. When Thomas does come off the IL, however, he should immediately slot back into the starting lineup in right field for Washington. Rotowire.com Today, 7:54 am

    • Fielding grounders
Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) was on the field Tuesday fielding groundballs, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Encarnacion-Strand's right hand remained in a protective cast while he fielded solely with his left (glove) hand. This was his first form of baseball activity since being diagnosed May 8 with a right ulnar styloid fracture on the inside of his hand near the wrist. The Reds still expect him back at some point in June, but a clearer timeline should emerge after Encarnacion-Strand undergoes a follow-up exam scheduled for June 5, the four-week mark of his projected 4-to-6 week recovery. • Goes seven innings in win
Wheeler (6-3) earned the win Thursday over the Rangers, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out five.

Advice: After Adolis Garcia led off the second inning with a home run, Wheeler held the Rangers off the board until Ezequiel Duran's two-out RBI single in the seventh. It's the sixth win in Wheeler's last seven starts, and he's pitched at least seven innings in back-to-back outings and three of his last four. His ERA sits at 2.53 on the season with a 0.98 WHIP and 76:21 K:BB in 67.2 innings. Wheeler is currently lined up for a road matchup with the Giants in his next start. • Austin Riley (side) misses 10th consecutive game
Austin Riley (side) remained out of the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: Riley remained out of Atlanta’s lineup for the 10th consecutive contest on Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field recovering from an intercostal strain. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart hasn’t played since May 12. The positive news here is that he was able to resume hitting on Wednesday without any issues. It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready to return for Friday’s series opener against the Pirates. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:48 pm

    • Zack Wheeler fires seven strong in win over Rangers
Zack Wheeler held the Rangers to two runs over seven innings while picking up a win Thursday.

Advice: Wheeler scattered five hits with two walks, and he struck out five. The blemishes on the scoreboard came on an Adolis Garcia homer in the second and an infield single by Ezekiel Duran in the seventh. Outside of that, it was another strong outing for the 33-year-old that sees him lower his ERA to 2.53 as he worked at least seven innings for the third time in four starts. He’s scheduled to get the Giants on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:16 pm

    • Rays waiting on Josh Lowe (side) IL decision
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports the Rays will wait until Friday before making a decision whether Josh Lowe (side) will require a trip to the injured list.

Advice: Topkin added that an injured list stint seems likely, but Tampa Bay wants to wait and see how he feels on Friday before making a final decision. Rays manager Kevin Cash delivered an ominous “not ideal” statement to reporters following Lowe’s early exit from Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox due to right side tightness. The 26-year-old five-category impact fantasy contributor dealt with a similar issue back in spring training and underwent an MRI on Thursday to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status at some point prior to Friday’s series opener against the Royals. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:15 pm

    • Missing another start
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: He'll remain on the bench for a 10th consecutive game while he continues to heal up from a left intercostal strain. Atlanta had initially viewed Riley as day-to-day when he departed an April 12 game against the Mets with the injury, but the club likely would have placed him on the 10-day injured list had they known the issue would have kept him out for more than a week. Riley was able to exhibit a sign of progress by taking swings on the field Tuesday, but it's not clear if he'll be on track to rejoin the starting nine during this weekend's three-game series in Pittsburgh. • Julio Rodríguez batting 6th for Mariners on Thursday
Julio Rodríguez has been moved down to sixth in the order for Thursday’s game against the Yankees.

Advice: Rodríguez hasn’t gotten off to the hot start many expected, but the move is a bit curious considering his average is up to .272 in May and his strikeout rate is down to 22 percent. The power has certainly not come, as he has just one home run in 20 games in May; however, he also has just one home run this season on 16 pulled flyballs and line drives so it feels like he’s been a bit unlucky in that regard. He has been struggling a bit with inside pitches and hits too many groundballs overall, but this feels more like a power cold streak than a true outage. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:43 am
