Cooper Criswell threw five shutout innings in a win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing two runs while striking out four and walking one.
Advice: It certainly wasn’t an electric start for the right-hander who had just a 15 percent whiff rate, but he posted a 29 percent CSW and got consistent called strikes with his sinker, and his sweeper missed just enough bats for him to be effective. Criswell now has a 1.65 ERA in four appearances and three starts with the Red Sox this season and figures to remain in the rotation for a couple more turns at least. He’s nothing more than a deep league streaming option given his lack of strikeout upside, but he could be startable this weekend against the Twins.
