    • Moving into reserve role
Newman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Advice: He'll sit for the second day in a row and looks set to see a steep reduction in playing time moving forward after the Diamondbacks brought back top shortstop Geraldo Perdomo from the injured list Tuesday. Newman joined the Diamondbacks in the second week of the season following Perdomo's placement on the IL and hit .266 with two home runs and two stolen bases over 49 games. Rotowire.com Today, 5:26 pm

    • Another strong outing Wednesday
Myers (3-2) earned the win Wednesday over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: A Davis Schneider homer in the first inning accounted for all the damage against Myers on Wednesday. The rookie right-hander has made two starts since he was recalled from Triple-A in late May, allowing just one run on four hits over 14 innings. The 25-year-old Myers has certainly made a case to stick in the Brewers rotation with Joe Ross (back), Robert Gasser (elbow), Jakob Junis (shoulder) and DL Hall (knee) all sidelined. He's currently lined up to face the Angels at home in his next outing. Rotowire.com Today, 4:46 pm

    • Rough day in Minnesota
Gomber (1-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Twins, allowing eight runs on 11 hits and a walk over three innings. He struck out two.

Advice: The Twins got to Gomber early Wednesday, scoring five times in the first inning before the left-hander was charged with another three runs before recording an out in the fourth. Gomber's now surrendered 15 runs over just 11 innings in his last three starts after working to a 0.67 ERA in his previous four outings. Overall, the 30-year-old left-hander sports a 4.26 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and 49:22 K:BB across 69.2 innings this year. Gomber will look to right the ship in his next start, though he's currently in line for a tough matchup with the Dodgers at Coors Field. Rotowire.com Today, 4:36 pm

    • Larger role at hot corner
Alexander is starting at third base Wednesday against the Angels, and Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said the utility infielder will see more opportunities at the position going forward, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Eugenio Suarez has worked as Arizona's everyday third baseman through the first two-plus months of the campaign, but he's struggled to a .575 OPS in 262 plate appearances. Wednesday's start is just Alexander's third at the hot corner this season, and his .279/.345/.403 slash line could be enough to seize a regular role. Lovullo wasn't clear how playing time will be split, but Suarez seems likely to still see at least fairly regular action. Rotowire.com Today, 4:06 pm

    • Out against lefty
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Carpenter will hit the bench Wednesday while the Pirates bring southpaw Bailey Falter to the hill. With Carpenter taking a seat, Alec Burleson will get a day out of the outfield and serve as the Cardinals' designated hitter while Dylan Carlson steps in as St. Louis' starting right fielder. • Checking out of lineup Wednesday
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Though he'll take a seat against a right-hander (Sonny Gray), the lefty-hitting Tellez seems to have a firmer grasp on a strong-side platoon role these days while he's begun to heat up at the plate. Over his last six games, Tellez has gone 9-for-19 with a home run, three doubles, two walks, seven RBI and three runs. Rotowire.com Today, 3:52 pm
    • Retreating to bench Wednesday
Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: Iglesias had started at second base in five of the past six games while the Mets faced a lefty-heavy schedule, but he'll retreat to the bench Wednesday even though Miami is bringing southpaw Braxton Garrett to the hill. Jeff McNeil will get the nod at second base and remains the Mets' top option at the keystone, but Iglesias should continue to play ahead of McNeil against most lefties. • Blaze Alexander to start seeing action at third
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Wednesday that Blaze Alexander will start seeing action at third base.

Advice: The 25-year-old has already appeared in four games (two starts) at the hot corner this season, but with Geraldo Perdomo back to see action at shortstop and Eugenio Suarez struggling mightily offensively, it sounds like Alexander has an opportunity to carve out a real role there if he continues to hit the ball. He’ll start at third base and bat eighth against the Angels on Wednesday night. Rotoworld Today, 3:44 pm

    • Returning to bench role
Brujan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Brujan closed the weekend with four straight starts in the infield, but the latter three came while both Tim Anderson and Otto Lopez were away from the team. Anderson has since been reinstated from the bereavement list and Lopez has come off the paternity list, so Brujan should settle back into a utility role for Miami. Rotowire.com Today, 3:35 pm
