  • Brewers get lefty Alex Claudio from Rangers
Brewers acquired LHP Alex Claudio from the Rangers for a competitive-balance Round A draft pick.

Advice: That competitive-balance draft pick is expected to come in at No. 40 or No. 41 overall next June. Claudio had a rough season with the Rangers in 2018, but he put up a 2.66 ERA over his first 162 1/3 major league innings between 2014-2017 and he's held left-handed batters to a .194/.220/.278 slash line since breaking into the bigs. It's another big weapon for the already-stout Milwaukee bullpen. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:35 am
  • Royals acquire Rule 5 pick Ellis
Rangers selected RHP Chris Ellis from the Cardinals with the seventh pick in the Rule 5 draft and traded him to the Royals.

Advice: Ellis is joining his third organization, having been traded from the Angels to the Braves in the Andrelton Simmons deal and the Braves to the Cardinals for Jaime Garcia in 2016. He was 10-4 with a 3.93 ERA and a 124/37 K/BB ratio in 132 2/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A last season. The stuff is decent enough to maybe make him a fourth or fifth starter in the majors. He'll compete with fellow Rule 5 pick Sam McWilliams, among others, for a spot at the back of the Royals rotation. Rotoworld.com Today, 9:34 am

  • PHI in pursuit of Andrew Miller, Zach Britton
According to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Phillies are "very much in pursuit" of free agent relievers Andrew Miller and Zach Britton.

Advice: The free agent relief market has officially fired up, with Joe Kelly and Jeurys Familia both agreeing to three-year deals overnight. Salisbury writes that Miller and Britton are "getting a lot of action from teams" and that the Phillies are "right in the thick of the chase." Miller battled injuries in 2018 and wound up with a poor 4.24 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 45/16 K/BB ratio over 34 innings with the Indians, but he ranked among the top relievers in baseball from 2013-2017. • Jake Thompson signs with KBO's Lotte Giants
Jake Thompson has agreed to a deal with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization.

Advice: Thompson had a 4.96 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 14/11 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings of relief this past season with the Phillies. The former top prospect should get another chance to work as a starting pitcher in the KBO. He's only 24 years old, so we wouldn't rule out an eventual return to Major League Baseball. • Breslow considering retirement at age 38
Craig Breslow is considering retirement and has been talking to teams about a non-playing role, per Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston.

Advice: Breslow, a Yale alum, has always seemed like a good bet to join a front office once his playing days were through. And it sounds like he is ready to make that transition this winter. The 38-year-old left-hander spent the 2018 season in the Blue Jays' minor league system, posting a 5.40 ERA across three different levels. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:49 am
