  • Manaea undergoes shoulder surgery
Sean Manaea underwent successful surgery on his left shoulder on Wednesday.

Advice: Manaea suffered a left shoulder impingement, and it was announced that the left-hander would not only miss the 2018 season, but through the 2019 season as well. The 26-year-old's year ended with a 3.59 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 160 2/3 innings in the 2018 campaign. Rotoworld.com 43 minutes ago

  • Cahill (back) throws successful bullpen
Trevor Cahill (back) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: Cahill told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that everything went well in the bullpen, and that he's going to be ready to go for whenever his next schedule start occurs. He hasn't thrown a pitch since September 9 because of the back injury. Expect to see Cahill start a game for the A's next week. Rotoworld.com Today, 3:49 pm

  • Flaherty allows five runs in loss to Braves
Jack Flaherty surrendered five earned runs over 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Braves.

Advice: It was a rare dud from Flaherty, who watched his season ERA rise from 2.86 to 3.08. He issued two walks and gave up five hits, including a two-run homer to Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the fourth inning. The 22-year-old rookie right-hander will look to get back on track in a big showdown at home against the Brewers next week. Rotoworld.com Today, 12:45 pm
  • Kopech had Tommy John surgery Tuesday
Michael Kopech underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday.

Advice: The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Kopech will miss the entire 2019 season, but he should be 100 percent leading into the start of spring training in 2020. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect registered a 5.02 ERA and 15/2 K/BB ratio over his first 14 1/3 major league innings (four starts) in 2018. Rotoworld.com Today, 12:38 pm
    60-Day DL
  • Ty Buttrey records fourth save vs. Athletics
Ty Buttrey struck out three batters to record a five-out save Tuesday, his fourth of the year, in the Angels' win over the Athletics.

Advice: Buttrey was summoned to preserve a four-run lead with the bases loaded and only one out in the eighth inning. He struck out Nick Martini before giving up a two-run single to pinch-hitter Dustin Fowler. He managed to escape with the lead intact by getting Ramon Laureano to ground out to end the frame. The 25-year-old righty fired a scoreless ninth inning against the heart of the Athletics lineup to slam the door. He's clearly supplanted veteran Blake Parker, who worked the seventh inning of this one, as the Angels closer going forward. He owns a 0.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 19/4 K/BB ratio in 14 appearances to begin his major-league career. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:55 pm
