  • Twins have interest in right-hander Joakim Soria
According to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News, the Twins have interest in free agent right-hander Joakim Soria.

Advice: The Twins are in the market for a bullpen upgrade -- with Trevor May signing with the Mets this week -- are they're reportedly "casting a wide net" in their search. The 36-year-old hurler is one of the top right-handed relievers available on the free agent market, coming off of a season where he posted a 2.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 24/10 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings with the Athletics. • Clay Holmes returns to Pirates on minors deal
Pirates re-signed RHP Clay Holmes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: The Pirates non-tendered Holmes earlier this week but have now brought him back into the fold. There figures to be a good number of similar moves around baseball in the coming days. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:25 pm
  • Jansen as closer 'solely dependent on him'
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this week that Kenley Jansen being the team's closer next season is the "best-case scenario," but it is "solely dependent on him.”

Advice: Jansen had a mostly dominant regular season in 2020, but he had a couple rocky appearances late and then struggled in the postseason. It was Julio Urias, not Jansen, who closed out the Dodgers' World Series-clinching Game 6 win. The 2021 season will be the final year of Jansen's five-year, $80 million contract. He's still probably the best candidate to close for the reigning champs as things sit right now, although the Dodgers are likely to add a couple high-leverage relievers this offseason (they already traded for former Brewers closer Corey Knebel on Wednesday). • Rays sign RHP Hess to minor league contract
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays have signed David Hess to a minor league contract.

Advice: Hess elected to be a free agent at the end of October after he went through waivers unclaimed. He registered a 6.43 ERA with one strikeout in seven innings, and isn't likely to play a significant part on the Rays' staff in 2021 or any other year.  Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:02 pm

  • Rockies acquire Aybar from Red Sox in trade
Rockies acquired LHP Yoan Aybar from the Red Sox in a trade for INF Christian Koss.

Advice: Aybar was on the 40-man roster after having his contract purchased in 2019. The left-hander is a former outfielder who made the move to pitch in 2018, and he's struck out 70 hitters in 56 2/3 innings; advancing to High-A Salem in 2019. He could give the Rockies some bullpen innings this summer as a hard-throwing southpaw.  Rotoworld.com Thursday, 3:35 pm
