  • Gio Urshela has bone chips removed from elbow
Gio Urshela underwent surgery on Friday to have bone chips removed from his right elbow.

Advice: The Yankees announced that the surgery went as expected and that Urshela's anticipated recovery time will be three months, so it shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the 2021 season. It's unclear how long the issue has bothered the 29-year-old -- or if it affected his performance during the 2020 campaign. In 43 games, Urshela slashed .298/.368/.490 with six homers and 30 RBI in 174 plate appearances. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:01 pm
  • Ronald Torreyes returns to Phillies
Phillies re-signed INF Ronald Torreyes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Torreyes spent most of 2020 at the Phillies' alternate site but also played in four games with the big club. He'll give them some utility infielder depth. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:38 pm
  • Report: Yankees have been in contact with Brantley
Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Yankees have been in contact with free agent outfielder Michael Brantley.

Advice: Olney also speculates that Brantley would be a Plan B if the Yankees are unable to sign DJ LeMahieu. The 33-year-old outfielder was a bargain for the Astros in his two years with the club, and in 46 games this summer, he hit .300/.384/.476 with five homers and 22 RBI; adding a couple of steals for good measure. Brantley would seem to thrive in New York and Olney notes that the club would like more left-handed hitting, but assuming LeMahieu does re-sign, this isn't a likely landing spot. Not yet, anyway.  Rotoworld.com Thursday, 2:57 pm
  • Mariners agree to minor league deal with 1B Travis
Mariners signed INF Sam Travis to a minor league contract.

Advice: Travis is a former second-round pick by the Red Sox who was acquired by the Rangers in January in a deal for Jeffrey Springs. The 27-year-old has struggled in the majors with a career .230/.288/.371 line in 278 plate appearances, and he isn't likely to compete for time in Seattle's lineup this spring.  Rotoworld.com Thursday, 1:28 pm

  • Nats trade interest in Kris Bryant 'tepid at best'
Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic writes that the Nationals' trade interest in Kris Bryant "seems tepid at best."

Advice: MLB.com's Jon Morosi reported a couple weeks ago that the Nationals were "considering" a trade for Bryant, but it seems their talks with the Cubs have fizzled -- if they ever even really started. Bryant was officially tendered a contract by Chicago on Wednesday night, but he is entering his walk year and could be moved elsewhere at some point this winter. The soon-to-be 29-year-old batted just .206/.293/.351 with four home runs and 11 RBI over 34 games (147 plate appearances) during the condensed 2020 campaign. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 12:50 pm
