Player Notes

  • Jake Arrieta fans five in victory Wednesday
Jake Arrieta earned his 10th victory of the season on Wednesday, limiting the White Sox to two runs on two hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Advice: Arrieta punched out five on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The White Sox scratched out a run in the fifth inning then Yoan Moncada belted a solo homer on Arrieta’s final pitch in the seventh. He’ll look to further improve upon his 4.03 ERA and 1.23 WHIP when he squares off against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Rotoworld.com 32 minutes ago
  • James Shields struggles in loss to Cubs
James Shields struggled in a losing effort against the Cubs on Wednesday, giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits in four-plus innings of work.

Advice: Big Game James walked three and punched out four on the evening. He had allowed just one run through the first four inning, but the Cubs broke it open as the first four hitters reached to start the fifth inning, including a three-run double by Anthony Rizzo. Shields now owns a troublesome 5.86 ERA and 1.66 WHIP on the season. He’ll do battle against the Blue Jays his next time out and can continue to be avoided for fantasy purposes. • Nolasco yields three runs in 6 2/3 vs Tribe
Ricky Nolasco allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings and was charged with a loss to the Indians on Wednesday.

Advice: He gave up nine base hits, including a solo home run by rookie outfielder Bradly Zimmer leading off the first inning. Nolasco struck out four and issued two walks in the quality start. He falls to 4-12 with a 5.07 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. He has a 96/33 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 119 innings over 21 starts. Rotoworld.com 37 minutes ago
  • Urena gives up five runs, still beats Rangers
Jose Urena picked up his ninth victory of the season on Wednesday despite allowing five runs on four hits over his five frames.

Advice: Urena also issued four walks while striking out five on the night. Thankfully, the Marlins provided him with a bushel of run support and all he needed to do was avoid a disaster to earn the victory. He'll bring a 4.04 ERA and 1.28 WHIP into Monday's matchup against the Nationals. Rotoworld.com 37 minutes ago
  • Nola tosses six shutout frames to beat Astros
Aaron Nola punched out 10 batters in six shutout innings to earn a 9-0 win over the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: His effort was all the more impressive considering it came against the best team in the American League. He gave up just four hits and one walk while throwing 103 pitches in the gem. His record improves to 8-6 with a 3.17 ERA through 16 starts. He has 107 strikeouts and 30 walks in 99 1/3 innings. He lines up for two starts next week, although one of them will be in Coors Field against the Rockies. Rotoworld.com 44 minutes ago
