    • D-backs optimistic Zac Gallen makes next start
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo expressed optimism late Friday that Zac Gallen (hamstring) will make his next start.

Advice: Gallen was removed from Friday’s start against the Mariners in the sixth inning for precautionary reasons after experiencing right hamstring tightness. The 28-year-old righty has dealt with similar hamstring issues in the past, which is why Arizona didn’t want to take any chances. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in a few days when he throws his usual between-starts bullpen session, but for the moment, fantasy managers should plan on him taking the ball on Wednesday against the Dodgers at Chase Field. • Punches out eight
Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision during Friday's victory over Cincinnati, giving up one earned run on three hits and five walks while striking out eight batters across six innings.

Advice: Coming off back-to-back losses, the 34-year-old righty found himself working from behind early after Elly De La Cruz walked and later stole home to score the first run of the game in the first inning. Eovaldi was able to regroup quickly and stifle the Reds' bats for the next five frames, though his struggles with limiting walks carried over from his previous start. He now owns a 3.00 ERA and 1.12 WHIP alongside a 36:17 K:BB through 36 innings in six games, and he'll look to pick up his second win of the season Thursday against the Nationals. • Quality start in no-decision
Ashcraft allowed one earned run on seven hits and no walks while striking out three batters across 6.1 innings during Friday's loss against Texas. He didn't factor into the decision.

Advice: Ashcraft needed to bounce back nicely Friday after giving up five runs to the Angels in five innings during his last start. He managed to do just that, as his lone blemish came in the second inning via an Evan Carter solo home run. A lack of production from the Reds' offense forced Ashcraft to settle for a no-decision, and he will carry a 4.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP into his next start -- currently projected to come Wednesday in San Diego. • Nathan Eovaldi doesn’t let walks get him down
Despite walking five, Nathan Eovaldi allowed just one run over six innings Friday against the Reds.

Advice: All three hits Eovaldi allowed were singles, and he struck out eight. Eovaldi wasn’t involved in the decision, so he remains 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA through six starts. He’s due to face the Nationals next. Rotoworld Friday, 11:22 pm
    • Graham Ashcroft works into seventh in no-decision
Graham Ashcraft pitched 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball against the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Ashcraft allowed seven hits, but since he walked none, only the Evan Carter homer did damage. He has a 4.40 ERA after five starts, and he probably deserves better, what with his 26/7 K/BB and strong groundball rate. He’s a fringy mixed-league option, but he’s a big key as far as the Reds’ chances of contending this season. Rotoworld Friday, 11:22 pm
    • Coughs up four homers
Musgrove (3-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.

Advice: Musgrove was cursed by the long ball Friday. He gave up a leadoff shot to Kyle Schwarber to begin the game before Philadelphia crushed three more homers during a four-run third inning. Musgrove is still searching for some consistency and his ERA has shot up to 6.94 through seven starts (35 innings). While he's struck out more than five batters just one time in 2024, he set a new season best by forcing 15 whiffs Friday, including seven with the slider. Musgrove will carry a lackluster 27:13 K:BB into his next outing, which is projected to come at home against the Reds. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:30 pm

    • Dealing with hamstring spasms
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Gallen was removed from his start against the Mariners due to spasms in his right hamstring, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Diamondbacks will continue to monitor Gallen's condition, but the expectation is that he will be fine and may not even have to miss his next start, which is slated for Wednesday. The right-hander surrendered three earned runs across five-plus innings Friday before exiting in the sixth frame, giving him a 3.38 ERA through his first six starts. • Joe Musgrove shelled over 3 2/3 in loss to PHI
Joe Musgrove gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Friday.

Advice: Giving up eight hits while not getting out of the fourth inning. Giving up four homers in that time is worse. Musgrove simply didn’t have it Friday night against the loaded Philadelphia lineup, and a starter who had been just so-so coming into the outing was much worse than that. Musgrove will work on lowering his 6.94 ERA against the Reds on Wednesday. Rotoworld Friday, 9:28 pm

    • Zac Gallen leaves start with hamstring tightness
Zac Gallen was pulled from Friday evening’s start against the Mariners mid at-bat in the sixth inning due to tightness in his right hamstring.

Advice: With as bad as it looked initially on the field, it’s actually encouraging that it’s not an elbow, shoulder or oblique issue that the 28-year-old right-hander is dealing with. The severity of the injury still isn’t known, but there’s a possibility that he may not even require a trip to the injured list. A lot will probably depend on how he wakes up feeling on Saturday, but for now fantasy managers and Diamondbacks’ fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Rotoworld Friday, 8:50 pm
