    • Launches first homer of 2024
Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Astros.

Advice: Torkelson finally broke through for his first home run of the 2024 season, launching a two-run shot off of Houston reliever Seth Martinez with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. After producing 31 home runs over 159 games in 2023, it took the first baseman 38 contests to go deep in 2024. Torkelson is now batting .224 with a home run, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored over those 38 games. Rotowire.com Today, 7:06 pm

    • Spencer Torkelson gets first homer of 2024
Spencer Torkelson finally hit his first homer of the season Sunday against the Astros.

Advice: It was about as meaningless as a homer can be, coming with the Tigers down 9-1 with two outs in the ninth, but let’s not worry about that. Torkelson, who hit 31 homers last season, got his first today in his 164th plate appearances and 38th game. He had four doubles in his previous six games, so it did seem like the drought was due to end. His OPS has climbed from .553 on May 4 to .627 now. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

    • Belts grand slam in victory
Canha went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and two walks Saturday in an 8-2 victory versus the Astros.

Advice: Canha set the tone early for the Tigers with a second-inning grand slam off Houston starter Cristian Javier. It was a much-needed big hit for the veteran slugger, who had gone 2-for-24 without an RBI while striking out nine times over his previous six games. The grand slam was the third of Canha's career. • Mark Canha crushes grand slam in win over Astros
Mark Canha crushed a grand slam in the second inning on Saturday night as the Tigers pummeled the Astros at Comerica Park.

Advice: Riley Greene drew a bases-loaded walk in the second inning to push the first run across, then Canha broke the game wide open with his 393-foot (102.9 mph EV) four-run blast off of Astros’ right-hander Cristian Javier. He also drew a pair of walks in the contest, finishing the night 1-for-3. On the season, the 35-year-old outfielder is now hitting .242/.365/.452 with six long balls, 20 RBI and one stolen base. • Nolan Jones heading out on rehab assignment
Nolan Jones (back) will join Triple-A Albuquerque to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

Advice: Kris Bryant (back) will start his rehab assignment on Tuesday, with Jones likely a day or two behind him. Rockies’ manager Bud Black said Sunday that both injured outfielders could return to the team at some point during their upcoming road trip. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:19 pm

    • Mark Canha returns to Tigers’ lineup on Friday
Mark Canha (illness) returned to the Tigers’ starting lineup for their series opener against the Astros on Friday night.

Advice: The 35-year-old outfielder missed each of the team’s last two contests due to illness. He’s off to a decent start overall through his first 34 games with the Tigers — hitting .248/.367/.444 with five homers, 16 RBI, one stolen base and a 28/17 K/BB ratio. He’ll serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat third against left-hander Framber Valdez on Friday evening in Motown. Rotoworld Friday, 2:32 pm

    • Back in lineup
Canha (illness) is batting third as the Tigers' designated hitter for Friday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Canha has been dealing with an upper respiratory illness and missed a pair of games due to the issue. However, he seems to be on the mend, as he'll be making his first appearance since May 6. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:50 am

    • Ready to increase activity
Jones (back) did light throwing prior to Thursday's game against the Giants and will continue to ramp up his activity Friday or Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Jones has been out since April 30 and did light throwing and running drills Saturday. If this weekend goes according to plan, he could head out on a rehab assignment in the coming days. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:16 pm

    • Mark Canha still out with illness Wednesday
Mark Canha is out of Wednesday’s lineup with an upper respiratory infection.

Advice: This appears to be why the 35-year-old was out of the lineup Tuesday as well. “He’s not feeling well,” manager AJ Hinch said. “It hasn’t been a great road trip health-wise (for the team), so we’re kind of quarantining him at this point to get him away from the rest of us until further notice.” If this is the case, Canha could be out a couple more games. The Tigers finish up their road trip at Cleveland and head back home for a weekend series against with the Astros. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:00 am
