    • TJ Friedl diagnosed with left thumb contusion
The Reds announced that TJ Friedl was diagnosed with a left thumb contusion after being hit by a pitch during Sunday’s game against the Giants.

Advice: Fortunately, X-rays came back negative on Friedl’s thumb after he was pulled from Sunday’s game. That wasn’t before he swiped a base and scored a run in the top half of the first inning though. He may wind up missing a game or two due to pain and swelling, but it sounds like Friedl should be able to avoid a return trip to the injured list. Rotoworld Today, 3:51 pm

    • Corbin Carroll has two hits against Orioles
Corbin Carroll went 2-for-5 with a double in a 9-2 win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: The effort put Carroll over the Mendoza Line on the season, as the 23-year-old is now hitting .201/.287/.266. Perhaps more encouraging, both of Carroll’s hits left the bat at over 100 mph. There are still real concerns about his ability to lift and drive the ball, and his home run projections all feel a bit high, but it’s nice to see him making authoritative contact. • Spencer Torkelson gets first homer of 2024
Spencer Torkelson finally hit his first homer of the season Sunday against the Astros.

Advice: It was about as meaningless as a homer can be, coming with the Tigers down 9-1 with two outs in the ninth, but let’s not worry about that. Torkelson, who hit 31 homers last season, got his first today in his 164th plate appearances and 38th game. He had four doubles in his previous six games, so it did seem like the drought was due to end. His OPS has climbed from .553 on May 4 to .627 now. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

    • Dealing with thumb injury
Friedl suffered a right thumb contusion in Sunday's matchup with the Giants, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl was hit by a pitch in the top of the first inning and exited the contest after not feeling well in the hitting cages. The outfielder appears to have avoided any fractures in his thumb and he can be considered day-to-day for the time being. Rotowire.com Today, 2:47 pm

    • TJ Friedl leaves game with thumb injury Sunday
TJ Friedl was removed from Sunday’s contest against the Giants after being hit by a pitch on his thumb.

Advice: Friedl remained in the game initially — even swiping second base and coming around to score a run — but he tested out his thumb in the cages to see if he would be able to swing a bat and he couldn’t do it. Presumably he’s heading for X-rays to see if there’s any structural damage. Stay tuned. It would be a big blow for the Reds to lose the dynamic 28-year-old outfielder again after just getting him back this week. Rotoworld Today, 2:05 pm

    • Leaves game after HBP
Friedl left Sunday's game against the Giants after being hit by a pitch on the left thumb area in the top of the first inning, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl spent a fair amount of time with the trainer, and while he stayed in the game initially, he didn't feel good in the cages in between innings, per the Reds' television broadcast. The 28-year-old had just returned from a right wrist injury suffered on a diving attempt during spring training, so it's not the same hand, but regardless he will likely need X-rays. • Thairo Estrada out Sunday against Reds
Thairo Estrada is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Reds.

Advice: It’s a day of maintenance for Estrada, as it’s his first day off since April 26. The 28-year-old infielder will get a day off with Brett Wisely getting the start in his absence. Rotoworld Today, 10:50 am

    • Sitting for series finale
Estrada is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Reds, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Estrada will sit for the first time since April 26, and Brett Wisely will start at second base Sunday against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas. Estrada is slashing .295/.340/.477 with two home runs and eight RBI in May. Rotowire.com Today, 10:45 am

    • J.T. Realmuto out Sunday with ‘banged up’ knee
J.T. Realmuto is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins while dealing with a knee issue.

Advice: Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters before Sunday’s game that Realmuto showed up to the park with a “banged up” knee, so he decided to give the backstop a day off. Thomson also said that the absence was precautionary, so there’s a good chance Realmuto is back in the coming days. Garrett Stubbs is hitting ninth and catching Sunday. Rotoworld Today, 8:54 am
