    • Struggles continue Thursday
      Riley went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in Thursday's win over the Orioles.

      Advice: The third baseman's been dropped down to fifth in the order, even with lefty-hander Cole Irvin on the mound for Baltimore on Thursday, but it hasn't helped wake up Riley's bat. His last homer came May 3, and in 16 games since he returned from an intercostal strain he's slashing just .161/.212/.194 with two RBI and a 4:17 BB:K. Riley's track record says he will heat up at some point this summer, and his Statcast profile suggests there's a great deal of bad luck contributing to his numbers this season -- he's in the 91st percentile in max exit velocity, 90th percentile in bat speed and 82nd percentile in hard-hit rate.     • Two RBI, two steals in win
      Langford went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Dodgers.

      Advice: Langford drove in two of the Rangers' three runs on the night with RBI singles in the first and third innings while also swiping two bags. It marked the outfielder's third game this month with two RBI and his first multi-steal effort of the campaign.       Yates picked up the save over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing one walk over a scoreless ninth inning while striking out three.

      Advice: Yates had a bit of a hard time getting through the ninth after entering the contest with a two-run lead, surrendering a leadoff walk to Teoscar Hernandez on five pitches, who would later advance to second on a called balk. However, the veteran reliever made short work of the next three batters, getting all three to go down swinging as he secured his 10th save in as many chances. Yates has been solid in the closer role for Texas thus far and now holds a 1.11 ERA on the campaign.     • Blows save chance Thursday
      Kopech (2-6) blew a save but earned the win over the Mariners on Thursday, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two batters over one inning.

      Advice: Kopech was summoned in the ninth inning to try to protect a one-run Chicago lead but served up a one-out, game-tying solo shot to Julio Rodriguez. To his credit, Kopech bounced back to retire the next two batters and send the game to extra frames, and he was credited with a win as a result of the White Sox pushing past a run in the 10th. Kopech hasn't been very effective in a closing role for Chicago -- he hasn't notched a save since May 15 and is just 5-for-9 in save opportunities this season. He has a 4.91 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 29.1 innings, though his 13.2 K/9 is characteristic of what most teams look for from a closer. Rotowire.com Today, 1:08 am

    • Wyatt Langford drives in pair in win over Dodgers
      Wyatt Langford drove in a pair of runs to help the Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Dodgers on Thursday.

      Advice: Langford singled in a run in the first to give Texas a 2-0 lead, and he extended that lead to 3-0 with another run-scoring knock in the third. The rookie outfielder’s pair of hits and RBI improve his slash to .283/.300/.317 with 19 runs driven in.       Kirby Yates struck out three in a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Dodgers on Thursday.

      Advice: Yates did allow a walk, but this was a much better effort than the one he had Wednesday when he picked up a save but was fortunate to not blow the opportunity. The right-hander has been outstanding for the overwhelming majority of 2024, and this scoreless outing gives him a 1.11 ERA along with 10 saves. He isn’t giving up this closing gig.       Michael Kopech blew a save but picked up a win while allowing a run over an inning of work against the Mariners on Thursday.

      Advice: Kopech gets the win despite allowing a game-tying homer to Julio Rodriguez with two outs in the ninth. The win stat has zero flaws and anyone who suggests otherwise is providing falsehoods.     • Suzuki swipes fifth base in loss Thursday
      Seiya Suzuki went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base on Thursday.

      Advice: Suzuki missed a couple of games last week with tightness in his side, but seemed to be feeling better in this one as evidenced by the stolen base.
