    • Giants finally place Jorge Soler (shoulder) on IL
Giants placed OF Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 5, with a right shoulder strain.

Advice: The Giants had been taking things day-to-day with their 32-year-old slugger — who has been shelved since last weekend due to soreness in his right shoulder — but on Wednesday they felt it was time to throw in the towel and sit him down rather than playing short-handed any longer. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers in weekly leagues, who may have chanced starting him for that juicy series at Coors Field. Heliot Ramos was recalled in a corresponding move. • Lands on injured list
The Giants placed Soler on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder strain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Soler's shoulder has caused him to miss the last three games, and he'll now officially be sidelined for another several days. The move is retroactive to Sunday, so it's possible the 32-year-old slugger is able to return in a week, but the Giants will wait and see how his shoulder heals. Heliot Ramos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

    • Chris Bassitt pitches into seventh in victory
Chris Bassitt pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball and struck out six Wednesday as the Blue Jays bested the Phillies 5-3.

Advice: The Jays wanted a little extra from Bassitt today with Yimi Garcia still unavailable and a tired bullpen after Tuesday’s 10-1 loss, and they got it, even though Bassitt didn’t get through seven as he would have liked. Bassitt struck out six and walked two. The win makes him 3-5 with a 5.06 ERA ahead of next week’s outing against the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 2:10 pm

    • Pirates will promote Paul Skenes to start Saturday
The Pirates announced Wednesday that top pitching prospect Paul Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his major league debut Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: The 21-year-old fireballer was making a mockery of the hitting at Triple-A with Indianapolis, registering a 0.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a ludicrous 45/8 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings of work in his seven starts. The Pirates are going to limit his innings this season, which will curtail some of his upside in the wins department, but he’s going to be an immediate impact contributor in all fantasy leagues and needs to be rostered everywhere at this point. • Strong effort vs. Phillies
Bassitt (3-5) earned the win Wednesday over the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: It was an impressive outing from Bassitt, as the right-hander limited a powerful Phillies offense to just three hits to snap a three-start losing streak. It's been an inconsistent start to the year for Bassitt though he seems to be rounding into form of late, delivering back-to-back quality starts. He lowered his ERA to 5.06 with a 1.55 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across his first 42.2 innings this year. Bassitt's currently lined up for a road matchup against the Orioles in his next outing early next week. Rotowire.com Today, 1:49 pm

    • Making MLB debut Saturday
The Pirates announced that Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Saturday against the Cubs at PNC Park.

Advice: Skenes likely won't be officially added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster until Saturday in advance of what should be one of the most highly anticipated MLB debuts for a pitching prospect in recent memory. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Skenes has been utterly dominant through his first seven starts at Indianapolis this season, pitching to a 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings. While he shouldn't be expected to immediately replicate the sterling ratios he produced in the minors, the flame-throwing right-hander should continue to make bats miss at a high clip as he makes the jump to the majors. The Pirates haven't revealed what the impending addition of Skenes means for the rest of the pitching staff, but the club could move to a six-man rotation to help keep the prized 21-year-old's workload in check during the 2024 season. • Sitting Wednesday amidst slump
Hayes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Hayes will get a breather for the series finale after he had started in each of the Pirates' last 11 games. The 27-year-old went 8-for-42 over that stretch, bringing his batting average down to a career-worst .240 for the season. Jared Triolo will fill in for Hayes at the hot corner Wednesday. • Four-hit night
Heim went 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 15-8 win over Oakland.

Advice: Heim extended a hit streak to five games, during which he's 10-for-17 with four walks, four RBI and eight runs scored. The catcher ranks third on the team with 22 RBI and fifth in runs (16) over 31 contests. With a doubleheader coming up Wednesday, Heim will likely sit out the matinee. Rotowire.com Today, 4:57 am

    • Makes season debut
Friedl started in center field, batted leadoff and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Friedl made his season debut Tuesday after opening the season on the injured list due to a wrist injury. He was unable to change the team's recent fortunes -- the Reds lost their sixth straight and have scored 10 runs during that stretch -- but that's a lot of pressure to put on any player returning from a wrist injury, which can be tricky. He'll return to his everyday role as Cincinnati's leadoff hitter and center fielder. Rotowire.com Today, 4:26 am
