    • Records fifth save
Bednar earned the save against the Giants on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three over one inning.

Advice: Bednar entered the game with a three-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and surrendered a two-run shot to Jorge Soler in the leadoff at-bat to make it 4-3. The reliever would also allow an infield single in the frame, but managed to work his way through it, retiring all three batters by way of strikeout. Bednar has now converted each of his last four save attempts, though he's also allowed at least one run in back-to-back appearances, leaving him with a dreadful 13.50 ERA in April. • Allows one run in no-decision
Perez pitched six innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Saturday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.

Advice: Perez was highly-efficient Saturday, retiring 11 of the first 13 batters he faced before eventually surrendering an RBI double to Wilmer Flores in the bottom of the sixth. It marked the veteran lefty's third start this season in which he lasted six or more innings while he's now given up two or fewer runs in four of his six outings overall. On the downside, he's also issued multiple walks in all but one start this season. Rotowire.com Today, 5:18 am

    • David Bednar hangs on for save against Giants
David Bednar was charged with two runs (one earned) in the 10th inning on Saturday against the Giants, but still managed to record his fifth save of the season.

Advice: Bednar got the call to protect a three-run lead in extra innings and immediately served up a two-run homer to Giants slugger Jorge Soler, which slashed the lead down to a single run. He struck out Michael Conforto before giving up a one-out single to Thairo Estrada, but managed to escape the jam by striking out LaMonte Wade Jr. and Mike Yastrzemski to end the contest. He’s converted just five of eight save chances this season and holds an inflated 11.70 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 15/3 K/BB ratio across 10 innings (12 appearances). It’s hard to draw firm conclusions based on early-season results, but Bednar has certainly struggled out of the gate. Rotoworld Today, 4:01 am
    • Martín Pérez tosses six strong frames Saturday
Martín Pérez was charged with one run over six innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Giants.

Advice: Pérez struck out four and only issued a pair of walks. He was long gone before this one was decided in extra innings, but turned in yet another solid performance in his Pirates debut. The 33-year-old journeyman southpaw has allowed three earned runs or fewer in five of his six starts to open the season. He’ll bring a solid 2.86 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 27/13 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (six starts) into a favorable home matchup on Friday against the Rockies. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 am

    • Looks mortal versus Phillies
Cease (3-2) took the loss against Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings.

Advice: Prior to Saturday, Cease hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his five starts and had pitched to a 1.82 ERA. That number ballooned to 2.78 after the outing against Philadelphia, with Alec Bohm accounting for four RBI against the right-hander. Despite the hiccup, Cease has been the Padres' most effective starter this season, and he'll look to bounce back into form in his next appearance, which projects to come on the road in Arizona. • Dylan Cease walks three, allows five in loss
Dylan Cease gave up five runs in six innings of work while picking up a loss Saturday against the Phillies.

Advice: Cease was going to have to be at his best to match Ranger Suárez, and unfortunately he wasn’t close. The right-hander did whiff five, but he gave up six hits that included a two-run homer from Alec Bohm. In his first season with the Padres, Cease has posted a very solid 2.78 ERA despite this not-so-effective outing. A chance to lower that figure comes Friday in Arizona. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:22 pm
    • Aaron Judge homers as Yanks crush Brewers
Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a blowout win Saturday over the Brewers.

Advice: Judge shellacked a two-run blast in the sixth inning for his fifth homer of the season. The 32-year-old has not enjoyed the best start to the season with a .190/.328/.390 slash, but it’s impossible to be too concerned with those numbers based on Judge’s track record. • Ryan McMahon clubs two-run homer in loss Saturday
Ryan McMahon went 1-for-2 and clubbed a two-run homer on Saturday night as the Rockies fell to the Astros in Mexico City.

Advice: McMahon got the Rockies on the board first in this one, clobbering a mammoth 459-foot (108.9 mph EV) two-run shot off of Ronel Blanco in the first inning. He also drew a walk and struck out in the contest, participating in only the three true outcomes. He’s off to a tremendous start to the 2024 season, slashing .310/.393/.480 with four homers and 16 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:13 pm

    • Blanks Oakland on Saturday
Irvin (2-1) picked up the win Saturday, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory over the A's. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Advice: For the second straight start, Irvin led the Orioles to a combined shutout. The southpaw retired the first 10 batters he faced, and Oakland failed to get a baserunner into scoring position until he'd left the mound. Irvin tossed 63 of 89 pitches for strikes as he extended his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings, and his impressive stretch may have come in the nick of time to save his rotation spot -- Kyle Bradish (elbow) is ready to come off the IL, and John Means (forearm) may not be far behind. Bradish lines up to take Irvin's spot next Wednesday at home against the Yankees, but Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reported prior to Saturday's game that Baltimore could shift to a six-man rotation in the short term. Irvin sports a 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB through 28.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:35 pm
