• Late addition to Friday's lineup
Ibanez will start at second base and bat seventh against the Red Sox on Friday.

Advice: Ibanez was initially slated to sit Friday, but he was inserted into the lineup after Mark Canha was scratched due to left hip soreness. Ibanez will go up against Boston right-hander Tanner Houck. Rotowire.com Today, 3:22 pm

  • Recalled from Triple-A
The Diamondbacks recalled Cecconi from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Advice: With Zac Gallen (hamstring) headed for the 15-day injured list, Cecconi will come up from the minors in order to fill the open spot in Arizona's rotation. The 24-year-old righty has been inconsistent in the majors this season, giving up two runs or less three times but also allowing six earned runs during his other three outings. He threw seven shutout innings while striking out nine batters during his most recent start in the minors, but he remains an extremely risky fantasy option. Rotowire.com Today, 3:10 pm
  • Diamondbacks recall Slade Cecconi on Friday
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Slade Cecconi from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: He’ll replace the injured Zac Gallen (hamstring) on the team’s active roster. It’s unclear if the Diamondbacks plan to have Cecconi take Gallen’s spot in the rotation, or if he’s just there to provide depth and length in the bullpen for a few days while they sort out their rotation plans. Either way, he can be avoided for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld Today, 3:05 pm
  • Bounces back in latest rehab start
Boyle (back) started Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Sugar Land on Wednesday and fired 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks while recording three strikeouts.

Advice: To label Boyle's start Wednesday an exponential improvement over his rehab debut last Thursday would be an understatement, considering the young right-hander didn't even record an out in that encounter with Triple-A Tacoma. Boyle was downright cruising in that context Wednesday, firing 25 of his 43 pitches for strikes -- and averaging 100.1 mph with his four-seamer per MLB.com -- during a much-needed confidence-building effort. Manager Mark Kotsay noted after the outing that Boyle felt as if he'd "turned a corner" with his back injury, but it remains to be seen if he'll get one more rehab outing before being activated. • Leaves with hamstring tightness
Luciano was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Phillies in the bottom of third inning with right hamstring tightness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. He reached base on a throwing error during his only plate appearance before exiting the contest.

Advice: Brett Wisely came off the bench to pinch hit for Luciano in the latter's second turn through the batting order. It's unclear whether Luciano first sustained the injury while he was playing shortstop in the top of the third or at some point earlier in the contest, but the Giants should provide more details on his condition after the game. Luciano has been working in the short side of a platoon with the lefty-hitting Wisely at shortstop lately while Nick Ahmed (wrist) is on the injured list. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:47 pm

  • Marco Luciano makes first start in five days
Marco Luciano is playing shortstop and batting second Wednesday in his first start in five games.

Advice: In spite of a .391 average in 26 plate appearances, Luciano had taken a seat in favor of Brett Wisely in recent days, all because of his problems on defense. He might head back to the minors once Nick Ahmed comes off the IL. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:32 am

  • Designated for assignment
The Giants designated McKenna for assignment Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Just 10 days after getting claimed off waivers from Baltimore, McKenna's time with the Giants has come to an end. The 27-year-old outfielder went 0-for-6 with a stolen base and a run scored in four games with the Giants. He sports a .626 OPS in 523 plate appearances across his MLB career and could draw some interest on the waiver wire from a team in need of outfield depth. Tyler Fitzgerald was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:01 pm

  • Promoted from Triple-A
The Giants selected Brooks from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Advice: Brooks will make his MLB debut Tuesday for the Giants against the Phillies as the first baseman, batting ninth. In Triple-A Sacramento this season, he has slashed .308/.426/.462 with four home runs across 177 plate appearances in 43 games. The promotion coincides with LaMonte Wade being placed on the injured list and Ryan McKenna being designated for assignment. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:58 pm

  • Giants call-up Trenton Brooks from Triple-A
Giants selected the contract of 1B/OF Trenton Brooks from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Brooks might be the last remaining healthy position player in San Francisco’s organization capable of playing first base and also handling an outfield spot. The 28-year-old has yet to reach the majors and has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Giants at the Triple-A level. He’s finally getting his chance with LaMonte Wade Jr. landing on the injured list. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:55 pm
