    • Brewers option Owen Miller back to Triple-A
Brewers optioned INF/OF Owen Miller to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: With Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) returning from the injured list on Friday, there was no longer room on the bench for Miller. He’ll return to an everyday role at Triple-A Nashville until his services are needed again at the big league level. Rotoworld Today, 3:51 pm

    • Sent back to Nashville
The Brewers optioned Miller to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Advice: Miller was recalled from Nashville earlier in May to provide depth as Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) headed to the injured list. Now that Hoskins is back, Miller will be pushed back to Triple-A. The 27-year-old infielder has slashed .185/.185/.222 across 27 big-league plate appearances this season, but he figures to be on the shortlist for a return to Milwaukee should the Brewers run into more depth issues. • Recalled by San Francisco
The Giants recalled Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Advice: The move corresponds with Marco Luciano being placed on the injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Since being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on May 17, Schmitt has gone 14-for-44 with 12 runs, four home runs and 12 RBI. With both Luciano and Nick Ahmed (wrist) on the IL, Schmitt will likely form a platoon at shortstop with the lefty-hitting Brett Wisely. Rotowire.com Today, 3:41 pm

    • Giants recall Casey Schmitt from Triple-A
Giants recalled INF Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder will get another opportunity with the big league club with Marco Luciano (hamstring) heading to the injured list on Friday. Schmitt has struggled in his limited action this season, hitting just .136 (3-for-22) with one RBI and a 5/0 K/BB ratio. Look for Brett Wisely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop with Luciano shelved. Rotoworld Today, 3:37 pm

    • Santiago Espinal delivers pinch-hit homer in win
Santiago Espinal hit a two-run homer as a pinch-hitter to help propel the Reds past the Cubs 5-4 on Friday.

Advice: Espinal hit for Will Benson against lefty Drew Smyly in the seventh and drove the first pitch he saw 385 feet to left-center. It would have been a homer in nine out of the 30 ballparks, says Statcast, Espinal is now batting .202/.261/.303 in 137 plate appearances for the Reds. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

    • Tommy Edman (wrist) takes BP left-handed Friday
Tommy Edman (wrist) was able to take batting practice from the left side of the plate for the first time on Friday.

Advice: Edman is already eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, but he’s still not close to being ready. The fact that he’s now able to face live pitching from both sides of the plate though is an encouraging sign and perhaps a minor league rehab assignment could be in the cards soon. He’s going to need plenty of at-bats there before he’s ready to join the Cardinals though and there’s no guarantee that he’ll even be ready before the end of June. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm

    • Taking BP from left side
Edman (wrist) has been cleared to take batting practice from the left side of the plate, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time the switch-hitter has taken BP from the left side since he experienced complications in his recovery from right wrist surgery. While the step is an important one, Edman does not appear close to beginning a rehab assignment just yet. Rotowire.com Today, 1:34 pm
