    • Aaron Nola defeats Cardinals to improve to 7-2
      Aaron Nola picked up his seventh victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Cardinals to two runs on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing two free passes. Both of the runs against him came on solo home runs — one by Brandon Crawford in the third inning and another off the bat of Nolan Arenado in the seventh. Nola generated 10 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the night — six of those on his knuckle curve — while registering a CSW of 30 percent. Now 7-2 on the season, Nola will tote an impressive 3.03 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 71/22 K/BB ratio (77 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Brewers. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago

    • Miles Mikolas logs quality start in loss on Friday
      Miles Mikolas posted a quality start in Friday’s loss to the Phillies, surrendering three runs on five hits across his six frames.

      Advice: Mikolas struck out five batters on the night while issuing only one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came during a three-run uprising in the second inning as Brandon Marsh plated a run with a ground ball and Edmundo Sosa crushed a two-run homer. He finished his day with four scoreless innings though to keep the Cardinals in the game. The 35-year-old hurler got eight whiffs on 96 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 24 percent.       Robbie Ray (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in an Arizona Complex League game at some point next week as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

      Advice: Ray continues to make strides toward a return to the Giants’ rotation. He’s going to wind up needing several minor league rehab starts after he’s finished with his work in the Arizona Complex League before he’s ready to return.       Dodgers designated RHP Elieser Hernandez for assignment.

      Advice: The Dodgers needed to clear a spot on the active roster for Evan Phillips’ return on Friday night and unfortunately Hernandez was the odd-man out this time around. The 29-year-old hurler has posted an 8.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 6/3 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings for the Dodgers this season.       Advice: Hernandez will be pushed off the Dodgers' roster in order to make room for Evan Phillips (hamstring), who was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Hernandez struggled heavily upon joining the big-league club May 15, allowing nine earned runs in just 9.2 innings of work.       Advice: It's the fifth straight start that Ashcraft's failed to record an out in the sixth inning -- he's allowed at least three runs in each of those outings. The 26-year-old right-hander is 4-3 on the year with a 4.76 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 47:21 K:BB across 11 starts (58.2 innings).       Advice: With Zac Gallen (hamstring) headed for the 15-day injured list, Cecconi will come up from the minors in order to fill the open spot in Arizona's rotation. The 24-year-old righty has been inconsistent in the majors this season, giving up two runs or less three times but also allowing six earned runs during his other three outings.       The Diamondbacks placed Gallen on the 15-day injured list Friday due to a right hamstring strain.

      Advice: Gallen was pulled from Thursday's start against the Mets after throwing just six pitches without recording an out. He has been dealing with a right hamstring issue since April 26, and the 28-year-old right-hander will now be on the shelf for an extended period of time after aggravating the injury. It's unclear how long Gallen will be sidelined, but if he only misses the minimum, that would put him in line to return June 15 against the White Sox.
