    • Jordan Montgomery hit hard by Mets
      Jordan Montgomery allowed six earned runs across four innings in a loss to the Mets on Friday. He struck out just four while walking three batters and giving up nine hits.

      Advice: Montgomery’s poor season continued on Friday. The Diamondbacks gifted him a 3-0 lead before he took the mound and still managed to cough it up before the third inning. Once again, his sinker was hit incredibly hard - the Mets had an average exit velocity of 97 MPH off the pitch - and he wound up trashing it as the game went on in favor of more four-seam fastballs and curveballs.     • Sixto Sánchez lifted with lead in fifth
      Sixto Sánchez yielded two runs in four-plus innings Friday in a no-decision against the Rangers.

      Advice: Sánchez, who went without a strikeout tonight, was pulled with a 4-1 lead after giving up a double and a single to start the fifth. Declan Cronin took over then and did a nice job in allowing only one of the runners to score.       Jeff Hoffman slammed the door on the Cardinals in the ninth inning on Friday night, protecting a two-run lead to earn his fifth save of the season.

      Advice: The 31-year-old hurler came on with a two-run advantage to protect against the heart of the Cardinals’ lineup. He made it look easy, getting Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman on swinging third strikes before retiring Nolan Arenado on a fly ball to right to end it.     • Aaron Nola defeats Cardinals to improve to 7-2
      Aaron Nola picked up his seventh victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Cardinals to two runs on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing two free passes. Both of the runs against him came on solo home runs — one by Brandon Crawford in the third inning and another off the bat of Nolan Arenado in the seventh. Nola generated 10 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the night — six of those on his knuckle curve — while registering a CSW of 30 percent. Now 7-2 on the season, Nola will tote an impressive 3.03 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 71/22 K/BB ratio (77 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Brewers. Rotoworld Today, 5:58 pm

    • Miles Mikolas logs quality start in loss on Friday
      Miles Mikolas posted a quality start in Friday’s loss to the Phillies, surrendering three runs on five hits across his six frames.

      Advice: Mikolas struck out five batters on the night while issuing only one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came during a three-run uprising in the second inning as Brandon Marsh plated a run with a ground ball and Edmundo Sosa crushed a two-run homer. He finished his day with four scoreless innings though to keep the Cardinals in the game. The 35-year-old hurler got eight whiffs on 96 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of 24 percent.       Robbie Ray (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in an Arizona Complex League game at some point next week as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

      Advice: Ray continues to make strides toward a return to the Giants’ rotation. He’s going to wind up needing several minor league rehab starts after he’s finished with his work in the Arizona Complex League before he’s ready to return.       Advice: The Dodgers needed to clear a spot on the active roster for Evan Phillips’ return on Friday night and unfortunately Hernandez was the odd-man out this time around. The 29-year-old hurler has posted an 8.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 6/3 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings for the Dodgers this season.       Advice: Hernandez will be pushed off the Dodgers' roster in order to make room for Evan Phillips (hamstring), who was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Hernandez struggled heavily upon joining the big-league club May 15, allowing nine earned runs in just 9.2 innings of work.
