    • Fires seven frames in loss
Cortes (1-2) took the loss against Oakland on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters over seven innings.

Advice: Cortes tossed a quality start for the third time in his past four outings, though he has added just one win to his ledger over that span. All of the runs the left-hander gave up Thursday came in the third inning via a pair of long balls. Despite notching just one victory across six appearances, Cortes has done pretty well so far this season, posting a 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 32:5 K:BB over 36 innings. • One out shy of quality start
Assad didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out five.

Advice: Although Assad was only at 85 pitches, he was pulled one out before becoming eligible for the quality start after allowing a pair of baserunners. Although Assad has completed six innings only once in five starts, he boasts a 2.00 ERA and a 26:9 K:BB with a 2-0 record. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against the Mets early next week. • Nestor Cortes completes seven frames against A’s
Nestor Cortes was charged with three runs over seven innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Cortes gave up third-inning homers to Nick Allen and Tyler Nevin, which accounted for all of the damage against him in this one, but didn’t get any run support from New York’s offense. The 29-year-old lefty will bring a serviceable 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 32/5 K/BB ratio across 36 innings (six starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Orioles. • Javier Assad holds Astros to one run over 5 2/3
Javier Assad struck out five over 5 2/3 innings while allowing just a run in a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Assad scattered four hits and issued one free pass. The right-hander got off to a rough start while allowing a run in the first, but he was excellent for the next five-plus frames. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs and fantasy managers who started Assad, he didn’t get the run support necessary to qualify for a victory. He’ll be back on the bump in New York next week against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:09 pm

    • Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) halts throwing program
Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) has been shut down from throwing.

Advice: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters earlier this week that Graterol hasn’t been bouncing back well from recent throwing sessions and the club wants to take a longer-term approach with his rehabilitation. There is no timetable for his return at the moment. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has been out since spring training due to right shoulder inflammation. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:03 pm

    • Goes yard again Wednesday
Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The 34-year-old first baseman appears to be heating up. Rizzo has gone yard in back-to-back games after managing only one homer in his first 23 contests this season. His .242/.314/.358 slash line and 11 RBI remain below expectations, but after a tough, concussion-marred 2023 campaign, Rizzo's beginning to look more like the player who slugged 32 homers in 2022. • Hitting, running to follow
Thomas (hamstring) has taken batting practice is now advancing to running the bases, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Thomas was set commence the baserunning portion of his recovery Wednesday. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said he's not yet at full speed but is progressing well in his recovery. The Diamondbacks do not yet have a target date for the outfielder to begin a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:13 pm

    • Two-run double in win
Nootbaar went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Nootbaar doubled in his final at-bat of the contest to send home Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. It was the left fielder's fourth extra-base. of the season, and he's now driven in two runs in two of his last three games. Nootbaar has also hit safely in six of his last seven contests. • On bench for fourth straight game
Duran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: After seeing his streak of six consecutive starts come to an end Saturday, Duran has now found himself on the bench for four straight contests. Duran's path to meaningful playing time appears to have come to a close with Josh Smith solidifying himself as Josh Jung's (wrist) primary replacement at third base and with first baseman Nathaniel Lowe having made his return from the injured list over the weekend.
