    • José Alvarado gives up homer, closes out Giants
      José Alvarado served up a solo homer in the ninth inning on Sunday night, but was still able to close out the Giants to protect a one-run lead and secure his seventh save of the season.

      Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw gave up a one-out solo blast to Jakson Reetz that pulled the Giants to within a run, but he battled back to strike out Nick Ahmed and got Jung Hoo Lee on a fly ball to right field to end it.     • Logan Webb hit hard in loss to Phillies on Sunday
      Logan Webb wasn’t at his best in Sunday night’s loss to the Phillies, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits in his four innings of work.

      Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander punched out six batters on the night while issuing a pair of walks. The Phillies scratched out a run against him in the second inning, then tacked on three more in the third including a two-run blast off the bat of Bryce Harper. Webb needed 98 pitches (59 strikes) to labor through 12 outs in this one, getting 10 swings and misses and posting a CSW of 26 percent.       Cruz went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: Cruz' go-ahead no-doubter to right-center in the sixth put the Pirates up for good. Cruz, who also doubled, collected his first multi-hit game in 12 games and only his third since April 6.     • Spencer Torkelson has two doubles, RBI in loss
      Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI as the Tigers fell to the Yankees on Sunday afternoon in New York.

      Advice: Torkelson smacked a two-out double off of Nestor Cortes in the second inning, but was left stranded there. He then got the Tigers on the board with a run-scoring double off of Ian Hamilton in the seventh inning. He’s still searching for his first home run of the season, but he does have 11 doubles and perhaps his bat is finally showing some signs of life.       Nico Hoerner doubled and drove in a pair of runs on Sunday, propelling the Cubs to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Brewers.

      Advice: Hoerner opened the scoring in the ballgame with a two-run double off of Freddy Peralta in the home half of the fifth inning. He then advanced to third on a ground ball and dashed home on a wild pitch with the Cubs’ third run of the day. The speedy 26-year-old infielder finished the afternoon 1-for-5 and is now hitting .282/.358/.397 with one home run, 10 RBI and four swipes through his first 34 games of the 2024 season.       Oneil Cruz homered, doubled and walked Sunday in leading the Pirates to a 5-3 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: The double would have been a homer in 24 parks, according to Statcast. Cruz left nothing to chance on the actual homer an at-bat later, sending it 429 feet to right-center.       Senga (shoulder) completed a 32-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

      Advice: Facing hitters in extended live BP session marks a major milestone in Senga's recovery from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain, which caused him to miss most of spring training and resulted in him opening the season on the 15-day injured list before he was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 10. He won't be eligible to make his season debut until May 27, but Senga appears on target to return on or around that date based on where he currently stands in his recovery. The Mets will see how he bounces back from Saturday's throwing session over the next couple of days before deciding whether he's ready to report to a minor-league affiliate to begin a rehab assignment, or if he'll need to throw another live BP before doing so.
