    • Pitches eighth inning Thursday
After nabbing his fourth save of the season on Wednesday, Payamps pitched the eighth inning on Thursday, getting his third hold of the season.

Advice: The Brewers flip-flopped the order between Payamps and Trevor Megill from the day before, with Megill getting his first save. The Brewers had just taken the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

    • Goes yard, scores three times
Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, three runs scored and a stolen base while also drawing a walk in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Advice: Contreras launched a solo homer off Mitch Keller in the top of the first to give Milwaukee an early lead and then came around to score the team's third run on a Rhys Hoskins single in the third after drawing a walk. He then added a single in the fifth before going on to steal his second base of the season. The catcher scored three runs in the contest, a mark he's hit three times now in the early season, while also recording multiple hits for the second consecutive game. Contreras is now batting .373 in April with five homers, 20 RBI and 21 runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 4:01 am
    • Allows season-high five runs
Peralta did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Thursday, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Peralta struggled with his command throughout the contest, allowing four of the first eight batters to reach base before going on to surrender a season-high five runs. The right-hander gave up three runs in the first inning alone and failed to make it through five frames for the first time this season. Peralta also recorded a season-low five strikeouts on the afternoon after recording at least seven in each of his first five starts to open the campaign. Rotowire.com Today, 3:35 am
    • Perfect for save No. 3
Munoz pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Rangers to earn a save.

Advice: Munoz picked up his first save since April 6, making quick work of Wyatt Langford, Travis Jankowski and Jonah Heim to close out the Mariners' win. He's now 3-for-4 in save chances this season and Thursday's outing could give him more leeway with Ryne Stanek breathing down his back for save chances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:45 pm
    • Gavin Williams shut down with elbow discomfort
Gavin Williams (elbow) has been shut down from throwing for at least one week after experiencing renewed discomfort.

Advice: Not good. Williams has been on the shelf since spring training due to right elbow inflammation and appeared to be getting close to making his season debut prior to this latest setback. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect should be ready to resume throwing next week after receiving a PRP injection. However, there is no official timetable for his return at this juncture. • Andrés Muñoz hurls scoreless ninth for save
Andrés Muñoz fired a scoreless ninth to preserve a win for the Mariners on Thursday while picking up a save.

Advice: Muñoz needed just eight pitches to get through the inning, as the Rangers were aggressive against the 25-year-old. It’s the third save of the season for the right-hander, and he lowers his ERA to a solid 2.89 with the scoreless frame. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:59 pm
    • Peralta has first poor start of the season
Freddy Peralta allowed five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: It all came down to command for Peralta, who walked five and struck out five on the day. Peralta, who has been electric all season, had just a 40 percent zone rate on the day and an 18 percent chase rate, so he wasn’t able to pound the strike zone and didn’t make the Pirates chase pitches out of the strike zone. His fastball, which had taken a massive step forward in 2024, had just a 40 percent zone rate on its own. Without that, Peralta was never able to get into a rhythm. We’ve seen his fastball command fail him at times, but this is the first time in 2024, so hopefully it’s not the beginning of a poor stretch of command. Peralta gets a tough test against the Rays next week, but should still be started in all leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:07 pm
    • Not starting Thursday
Machado (personal) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Since Machado has already spent the maximum three days on the paternity list, he needs to be activated Thursday, but the Padres have yet to officially announce the move. Even if the Padres add Machado back to the 26-man roster Thursday, he'll still be available only as a bench player before likely making his return to the lineup against the Phillies this weekend, when the team returns to San Diego. Jurickson Profar will serve as the Friars' designated hitter Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:42 am

    • Notches seventh save
Kimbrel picked up the save against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk over one inning while striking out one.

Advice: Kimbrel surrendered a leadoff single to Ehire Adrianza to open the bottom of the ninth, who then advanced to third on a throwing error by Jorge Mateo. This would lead to a run coming home for Los Angeles in the frame on a groundout to make it a 6-5 game, though Kimbrel was able to retire two of the next three batters to nail down his seventh save of the season. The veteran reliever has now converted each of his last seven save attempts after blowing the save to open the campaign, but he's also allowed a hit and a walk in each of his last two appearances.
