    • Back at first base Saturday
Abreu is starting at first base and batting eighth in Saturday's contest against the Rockies in Mexico City.

Advice: Abreu has ceded the starting first base job to Jon Singleton as of late, with the former going 1-for-21 over his last seven games. Abreu will hope to turn around his poor start to the season Saturday against Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:24 pm

    • Rehab assignment approaching
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Steele (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Counsell didn't say how many starts the Cubs want Steele to make in the minors, but the 28-year-old southpaw is likely in for multiple rehab outings after sitting out roughly a month due to a strained left hamstring. Assuming his assignment goes smoothly, Steele will likely return to Chicago's rotation toward the middle of May. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:17 pm

    • Justin Steele set to make rehab start this week
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Saturday that Justin Steele (hamstring) will make a minor league rehab start this week.

Advice: Steele continues to progress towards rejoining Chicago’s starting rotation after landing on the injured list back in late March with a left hamstring strain. The 28-year-old southpaw should be ready to return in early-to-mid May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:55 am

    • Goes seven innings in second win
Stone (2-1) earned the win Friday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Stone was impressive Friday, holding Toronto to one run on Danny Jansen's fourth-inning homer while the Dodgers' offense provided plenty of support in an eventual 12-2 victory. The 25-year-old right-hander has held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings, lowering his ERA to 4.68 with a 1.44 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB across five starts (25 innings) this season. Stone's currently slated for a tough home matchup versus Atlanta in his next outing. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:13 pm

    • Gavin Stone strong for seven in downing Jays
Gavin Stone limited the Blue Jays to one run and two hits over seven innings in the Dodgers’ 12-2 rout Friday.

Advice: Stone got just two strikeouts and four missed swings tonight, but he did a nice job of keeping the ball on the ground while picking up his second win and quality start in five tries this year. He’ll take a 4.68 ERA into a tough matchup against the Braves next week. Rotoworld Friday, 6:56 pm

    • Back in starting lineup Friday
Drury (hamstring) is starting as the designated hitter and batting fifth in Friday's game against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After returning to action for all three games against the Reds last weekend, Drury missed the past three contests against the Orioles due to a lingering left hamstring injury. The three-game absence, along with the Angels' off day Thursday, seems to have done the trick for Drury, as he'll start at DH for the series opener Friday versus Minnesota. The 31-year-old is slashing .194/.270/.269 with two doubles, six runs, one home run and four RBI over 74 plate appearances to begin the season. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:15 pm

    • Swipes first bag
Vaught went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's loss to the Twins.

Advice: Vaughn singled in his first trip to the plate before stealing his first base of the season. He added a double in his next at-bat, then came around to score on a Paul DeJong single to put Chicago up 2-0, marking the first baseman's first multi-hit performance since April 9 against the Guardians. Vaughn is batting just .170 (15-for-88) following the two-hit effort, though he has hit safely in three of his last four games. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:37 am

    • Notches first win of season
Wood (1-2) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Wood allowed plenty of traffic on the basepaths, but the only run that crossed the plate against him came on a second-inning Jose Trevino solo homer. This was by far the left-hander's best outing in an A's uniform -- he came into the contest holding a 7.89 ERA and 2.03 WHIP while failing to go five innings in three of his five starts. One strong start isn't going to wipe away Wood's poor overall body of work on the campaign, but it at least helped him get into the win column for the first time and provided hope that he could yet turn things around. • Reaches three times, swipes base
Betts went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base against the Nationals in Thursday's 2-1 victory.

Advice: Betts scored the decisive run in the contest by walking, swiping second base and crossing the plate on a Freddie Freeman double in the eighth inning. Betts seems to be running more frequently so far this season -- the stolen base was his sixth of the campaign through 27 contests, putting him well on pace to reach 20 steals for the first time since 2018. That has to be sweet music to his fantasy managers' ears, and Betts is paying huge dividends in other areas as well, slashing .374/.477/.636 with six homers, 21 RBI and 27 runs.
