    • José Soriano hit hard Saturday in loss to Twins
José Soriano was torched for four runs over 1 2/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Twins.

Advice: Soriano was mercifully lifted in the second inning after allowing eight of the 12 batters he faced to reach base safely on three hits, three walks and a pair of hit batters. The latest calamitous abbreviated outing casts some doubt on his long-term viability as a starter since he’s completed five innings just twice in four starts since April 10. The strikeouts have been there, but he’s simply too risky to trust for fantasy purposes at the moment. He’s in line to face the Guardians on Friday at Progressive Field his next time out. • Could play in Vegas on Sunday
Davis (thigh/groin) joined Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday to partake in baseball activities and is expected to serve as the designated hitter for the Aviators on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Davis has been sidelined since sustaining his injury April 14, but he'd been ramping up physical activity in recent days. Manager Mark Kotsay said Saturday the plan is for Davis to rejoin the Athletics on Monday, at which point it will be determined whether he'll need to play in more rehab games or if he's ready to be activated from the injured list. • Jason Foley escapes ninth inning with eighth save
Jason Foley walked the tightrope in the ninth inning against the Royals on Saturday, escaping with a one-run lead intact to earn his eighth save of the season.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander came on with a three-run advantage, but the Royals nudged closer as they put three hits together to score a pair of runs and put the tying run on base. He rallied back though to get Vinnie Pasquantino on a fly ball to center to end the ballgame. On the season, Foley now holds a 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 11/6 K/BB ratio across 12 innings on the season to go along with eight saves and two victories. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:14 pm
    • OK following hit-by-pitch
Reds manager David Bell said the removal of Stephenson from Saturday's game versus the Rangers following a hit-by-pitch on the right hand was precautionary, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: It doesn't sound like Stephenson even needed to undergo any testing. It's possible the Reds will choose to hold him out Sunday, particularly because it's an afternoon game, but Stephenson is expected to be fine. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:40 pm

    • Oneil Cruz sits with injured ankle on Saturday
Oneil Cruz was held out of the Pirates’ starting lineup on Saturday due to an injured ankle.

Advice: The dynamic 25-year-old shortstop tweaked his ankle during Friday night’s game against the Giants and was given a night off on Saturday to rest it. For the time being, he’s considered day-to-day. Alika Williams will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against Jordan Hicks and the Giants on Saturday evening in San Francisco. • Sitting with injured ankle
Cruz isn't in Pittsburgh's lineup Saturday against the Giants after tweaking his ankle during Friday's game, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Cruz hurt his ankle after sliding into third base during the ninth inning of Friday's game, and it is apparently bothering him enough to warrant a day off Saturday. While he recovers, Alika Williams will start at shortstop and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:23 pm

    • Another strong outing
Sale (3-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over seven innings in a 6-2 victory over the Guardians. He struck out six.

Advice: The veteran lefty has been healthy and dominant to kick off 2024, and he completely shut down the Cleveland offense after serving up a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan. Sale has worked seven-plus innings in three straight starts for the first time since June 2018, and he's allowed three runs or less in four of his five outings so far for Atlanta. Sale will take a 3.69 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Seattle. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:39 am

    • Swipes two bags
De La Cruz went 0-for-2 with two walks, stole two bases and scored a run in Cincinnati's loss to Texas on Friday.

Advice: Despite not being able to tally a base hit during Friday's game, De La Cruz was able to make his presence felt by drawing a walk in the first inning and eventually stealing home to score Cincinnati's first and only run of the game. He walked again and stole second base in the fifth inning, giving him an MLB-best 17 thefts on the season. Along with his exceptional baserunning, the 22-year-old infielder has been outstanding at the plate, slashing .299/.419/.621 with seven homers and 18 RBI through his first 105 plate appearances. • Kodai Senga (shoulder) to face hitters next week
Kodai Senga (shoulder) is scheduled to face hitters on Monday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: Senga remains unlikely to make his season debut until late May, at the earliest, but this latest development represents a massive step forward in his rehabilitation process from a shoulder injury that sent him to the injured list back in spring training. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:42 am
